Residents hide under their blankets as man is beaten to death; his n@ked body found in the street

When residents heard screams in the early hours of the morning, they locked their doors and hid under blankets.

And the next morning they woke up to a n@ked body of a man who had been beaten to a pulp. The publication went to the scene at Lakeside in the Vaal, where shocked bystanders stood looking at the body of an unknown man lying in the street, his bloodied jersey lying metres away.

The motive for the brutal murder is not yet known. Chairman of the CPF Phineas Mlambo said they were doing routine patrols when they found the man struggling to breathe, but unable to speak.

“It was at about 4am. We called the ambulance but the man died moments before it arrived.”

He said such gruesome scenes weren’t that common anymore as their patrols curbed the mushrooming crime.

“We don’t know what happened, but nearby residents claimed they heard a scream around midnight. The last time we found a man killed was two years ago.”

Pule Sithole (32) said he heard the man begging for his life, but he was too afraid to leave his house. “I pulled the blankets over my head and told myself I’ll see what had happened in the morning. Sometimes you may rush outside and find yourself in danger,” he said.

Police spokeswoman Constable Thulisile Msibi said cops were called to the scene.

“On arrival they found a male aged between 25 and 30 lying on his back with his head facing up in the middle of the road half-n@ked. An ambulance was called and the paramedics declared the man dead on the scene,” she said.

Msibi said the motive behind the murder was unknown.

“Suspects are unknown and Evaton police are investigating a case of murder.

Anyone with information should call Evaton police on 016 596 1044,” she said.
