Maskandi artists, including Mthandeni “Igcokama Elisha” Manqele and Khawulani “Unjoko” Mbambo, have thrown their weight behind Ngizwe Mchunu.
On Wednesday, 28 July, they announced on Instagram and Facebook they were not going to sit back and watch, but would rather go to court and support him.
Igcokama Elisha wrote: “Njengamanje namhlanje manje ngalelixesha ngibheke enkantolo ecaleni lika Ngizwe. Kukuhle noma kukubi, eyakithi ingane Mabhinca syayazi angeke siyilahlele muntu zyalila manje nkosi.”
(“Today, I’m going to court to attend Ngizwe’s case. In good or bad times, I shall support him. We know him and he’s one of us. We can’t neglect him. It’s game on.”)
Unjoko also announced he was on his way to support Mchunu.
“As men, we’re on our way to support IChunu,” he wrote.
Their fans applauded them.
Sizwe Sphamandla Khathide said: “That’s brotherhood. Somebody else would not have supported Ngizwe, considering the history between the two of you. That shows maturity.”
Lungy Moloi said: “Seeing maskandi artists supporting each other is putting a smile on my face. All the best.”
Mtshali Somnyama said: “You’re our hero, and you are representing us well.”
Then Skaqakaqa wrote: “Thank you for showing ubuntu. May God bless you for us.”
Ndoda also encouraged him and said: “What you are doing is good. We’re behind you; go and support him.”
The former Ukhozi FM presenter was appearing in Randburg Magistrates Court after handing himself over to the police. He was later charged with incitement to commit public violence.
