SA COVID-19: Positivity rate down to 3.4%

South Africa’s COVID-19 positivity rate is down to 3.4 percent. 809 new infections were reported in the last 24-hours. Unfortunately, 27 more people have lost their lives to the coronavirus.

Six provinces recorded fewer than 100 cases.

They include: Limpopo with 11, Mpumalanga with 25, the North West recorded 59 infections, the Free state, 70, the Northern Cape 87, and Gauteng, 97.

While Kwazulu-Natal remains the province with the highest number of infections, those numbers are also significantly down.

It’s recorded 177 new infections.

The Western Cape had 156 new cases.

With the country enjoying the benefits of lockdown alert level one, South Africans are still being encouraged to get vaccinated.

To date, 17.8 million vaccines have been administered.

In total, only 9 million of South Africa’s 59 million people are fully vaccinated.

The Zwartkops Raceway drive-through vaccination site in Centurion has administered 25,000 jabs in 42 days.

It brings to over 4.7-million, the number of vaccines administered in the province.

Dr. Munnira Moosa, a volunteer at the site, says working together to fight the pandemic has been an amazing experience.

Dr. Moosa said, “all the medical fraternity and the community all working together just to give back to the community and to work together to reduce the numbers of hospital admissions, to reduce the number of people being really sick with COVID it was an amazing experience. A sense of camaraderie, a sense of giving back, and a sense of charity.”
