Actor Fana Mokoena turns down Hollywood role for politics

Fana Mokoena, who is Scandal’s Vukile Kubeka, turned down a Hollywood role for politics. While many celebrities pray for the opportunity to work in Hollywood, how many stars would turn down a chance to work with Hollywood heavy hitters? Fana Mokoena joined this paper-thin list of people. The actor was offered a role in a big movie in Hollywood, and he turned it down to pursue politics in 2014.

Fana Mokoena turned down a Hollywood role in Christopher Nolan’s Blockbuster, Interstellar. The movie is a sci-fi film that follows a group of astronauts who travel near Saturn in search of a new home in a Utopian future when humanity is struggling to survive. The movie grossed a total of $701.8million at Box Office. The 50year old actor was to be cast alongside stars like Anne Hathaway, Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, and many more.

Fana told Sowetan that it was a tough decision to make, but it had to be made. He was one of the South African actors that were breaking into Hollywood. He has bagged movie roles in World War Z and Mandela-Long Walk to Freedom alongside Brad Pitt and Idris Elba.

Even though the actor does not want to be labeled a politician, he was a delegate National Council of Provinces for the Economic Freedom Front for two years, from 2014 to 2016. He was also a member of parliament with the EFF party for four years, from 2016 to 2020. Mokoena does not regret his decision regardless of the challenges he faced in his political career of 8 years.

Currently, the man is into acting again and is playing the role of Vukile, the head of the Kubeka family in Scandal on etv.
