Nehawu threatens court action over protective gear

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union is demanding protective gear for its members. It says if this does not happen by Wednesday, it will take the Department of Health to court.

The union, which represents many health care workers, says its members are not being protected against COVID-19.

Nehawu says those at the forefront of the fight are being forced to work without the necessary equipment.

The union wants the department to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that screening and testing will be ramped up.
