AmaZulu King Goodwill Zwelithini says the high number of reported gender-based violence cases are not because of the COVID-19 lockdown.
Zwelithini says women have long been experiencing the scourge of GBV and the lockdown made the situation worse.
The AmaZulu Royal household and government officials celebrated Umkhosi WeLembe.
The day marks the death of King Shaka, the leader who unified the Zulu nation. The king has applauded the government’s efforts in fighting COVID-19.
He has warned people to continue adhering to health and safety regulations.
