KZN community demands water and electricity

Residents of Pomeroy in Northern KwaZulu-Natal were expected to take to the streets again Friday but an intervention by Community Safety MEC Bheki Ntuli seems to have saved the day.

Just last week, the community dug up the R33 in protest over the lack of water and electricity. Ntuli has listened to their grievances and assessed the damage.

The MEC was reacting to the digging up of the R33 and then blocking it with stones, causing damage that is now affecting traffic flow and delivery of goods and services.

The protesters’ actions have been deemed criminal. Electricity, water and road infrastructure are the community’s main concerns, however, a promise to deliver has been made.

The community has been urged to exercise patience while government attempts to address their concerns.
