SA records 24,264 confirmed COVID-19 cases as death toll rises to 524

Forty-three more people have died from the coronavirus in the country, taking the death toll to 524. The health department has announced 649 new cases on Tuesday night. The total number of positive cases now stands at 24,264. Almost 606,000 tests have been conducted to date.

Recoveries stand at 12,741. The Western Cape still has the highest number of positive cases with 15,829 cases followed by Gauteng with 3,043 cases and the Eastern Cape with 2,864 cases.

In other news – Lockdown Level 3: South Africa is going against WHO

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize on Tuesday confirmed that the lockdown was being eased despite the World Health Organization (WHO) stating that the country should wait for a decline in Covid-19 cases and a lower rate of infections.
