Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu says Govt was not pressured to allow religious gatherings

Government is set to outline exactly how religious gatherings will be allowed from next week. Religious leaders and their followers are divided on the relaxation of the rules. Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu insists government was not pressured into making the decision.

The president’s office insists the government has been careful not to practice its righteousness in order to gain support from religious leaders, nor is it bowing to their pressure. Government says it will on Thursday afternoon finally lay bare all Level 3 lockdown regulations, including those that will shed light on how that controversial decision will be implemented.

Jackson Mthembu,

Thursday’s briefing will be delivered by cooperative governance minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and her trade and industry counterpart, Ebrahim Patel. While religious leaders such as Reverend Kenneth Meshoe and Bishop MJH Ubane of the Evangelical Lutheran Church have praised the announcement, others think the regulation being eased is a mistake.  Coronavirus Hotline Number: 0800 029 999 from 8 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday.
