The Health Department has recorded another 13 COVID-19 related deaths, taking the death toll to 116. Patients died in the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and the Eastern Cape. A further 304 people tested positive, bringing the total number of positive tests to 5,591. Some good news is that 2,382 people have recovered from the virus.
The Health Department said 217,522 tests have been conducted to date with nearly 10,000 in the past 24 hours. The country on Friday began gradually easing its strict lockdown, allowing some industries to reopen after five weeks of restrictions and an economy in turmoil.
Among the industries permitted to reopen factories are winter clothing, textile and packaging manufacturing. Some 235,519 people have died worldwide since the epidemic surfaced in China in December, according to an AFP tally based on official sources.
In all, 3,303,510 cases have now been reported in 195 countries and territories.
