Boity Thulo was almost scammed of R900 by a social media user who claimed she was short for rent money.
If it wasn’t for the unmatched expertise of Twitter investigators, Boity would not have known that the damsel in distress was actually a catfish with a fake Twitter account.
The catfish had tweeted to Boity asking for assistance to pay the outstanding amount for her rent.
“Hi sis Boity could kindly please help me with rent money. I’m Short of R900.Thank you in advance. And God bless,” she wrote.
Boity seemed determined to assist, “Ok sisi” she replied to the request.

It then turned out that the catfish was not really who her profile picture deemed her to be; she had, in fact, catfished another lady who goes by the name Lungi.
Lungi then tweeted to Boity cautioning her that the woman she was about to assist was not who she claimed to be.
“[Boity], please note that this account is using my pictures and I’ve spent the whole day trying to report it. I don’t mind you helping but the person you are helping is not the person in the picture,” she wrote.

The catfish lady later apologized to Lungi.
Here’s what she wrote:
“…I would like to kindly apologize for using your pictures. I’m truly sorry. It wasn’t my intention to hurt you in any way. I know sorry is not enough. I’m sorry from the deepest pit of my heart. This is really a bad example for my daughter. I pray you find it in Your heart to forgive me. There’s no excuse that I can tell you for doing such. I know it maybe be dangerous as I’ve been told and [I] didn’t realise the impact I’m causing. I’m really sorry. Please forgive me.”

Boity was also pretty impressed that the catfish lady said her apologies as she had promised to.
We spoke in the DMs and she promised that she would apologize and I’m glad she did. I believe her and I hope we can all forgive her. https://t.co/VPE4c1R2R8

We wonder whether Boity ended up assisting the lady after all that trouble she went through for rent.
