Mzansi Celebs outraged by an interview with Nicholas Ninow’s mother

South African celebrities are at the forefront of the latest Nicholas Ninow outrage after SABC News shared an in-depth interview with his mother. Nicholas Ninow’s much-publicised rape case came to a conclusion two weeks ago when he was sentenced to life behind bars for sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl in September 2018. The 21-year-old was convicted of rape, and also slapped with another five-year sentence which will run concurrently for drug possession; this came after he pled guilty to all charges.

Chantal spoke at great lengths in a bid to defend her son from what she believes to be a public “witch hunt”. She attempted to explain his mental state and attributed his actions to a combination of drug abuse and a troubled upbringing.

Twitter users were outraged by the SABC’s decision to air the interview in the wake of Nicholas’s sentencing, with many claiming that it was insensitive.

Among the loudest voices were some of South Africa’s celebrities who slammed the national broadcaster for what they described to be a “slap in the face” of all victims. Busiswa, Mmabatho Montsho, Anele Mdoda and Rouge were among the loudest critics on Twitter when they said:
