Seven dead in taxi dispute in Eastern Cape

A fight between two groups in Mount Ayliff, in the Eastern Cape, has left at least seven people dead.

Six others have been rushed to the hospital.

It’s believed that a group of ten men from Mpheni village allegedly attacked another group from Nokhatshile village.

According to police, the fight is about a dispute between local taxi associations.

The provincial government has condemned the attack and is appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

The constable is alleged to have been drunk when he allegedly drove his police van into the back of a taxi on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old police constable was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless and negligent driving after being recorded fighting with a taxi driver. learn more
