Eastern Cape govt welcomes new COVID-19 regulations

The Eastern Cape government has welcomed the new COVID-19 regulations, announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa declared the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro a COVID-19 hotspot and cancelled the summer initiations in the region.

Provincial government spokesperson Mvusiwekhaya Sicwetsha says the regulations could help curb the spread of the virus.

“We support additional restrictions in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and we believe these will help us contain the spread of coronavirus in the metro before it can further spread to other parts of our province,” he said.

A number of hospitals in the metro have reported a rise in alcohol-related trauma admissions.
