DA leader John Steenhuisen names ANC members he wants to be arrested next

Evidence presented to the State Capture Commission has finally resulted in a flurry of arrests this week, with three African National Congress (ANC) members and associates swooped on by the Hawks on Wednesday and Thursday. This isn’t enough for Democratic Alliance (DA) interim leader John Steenhuisen though, and he’s got a list of other members he wants brought to book.

Steenhuisen said on Thursday 1 October that the arrests of former ANC MP Vincent Smith, former Mangaung Mayor and MEC Olly Mlamleli, and ANC-connected businessman Edwin Sodi should serve as the prelude to a sweeping blitzkrieg on corruption.
Steenhuisen said the arrested individuals were by no means the only conspirators in the looting and said that individuals linked to them need to appear on the Hawks’ case files and National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) charge sheets too.

“It is common knowledge that Bosasa bribes were not only paid to Smith, and that senior ANC cadres such as [Former SAA chairperson] Dudu Myeni, [former Minister of Water and Sanitation] Nomvula Mokonyane and Mining Minister Gwede Mantashe were also beneficiaries of the scandal,” he said.

He went as far as to say that President Cyril Ramaphosa and his son, Andile Ramaphosa, should be added to the investigators’ watchlist, charging that they both “received suspicious payments from this company mired in government corruption”.
Steenhuisen mercilessly rattled off more names of ANC members that he wants to see in handcuffs, and said that the next batch of arrests should be of people unscrupulously linked to the Free State asbestos scandal.

“The Free State asbestos scandal for which Mlamleli and Sodi were arrested along with other officials, also involved several high-ranking ANC individuals, most notably ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule,” he said.

“News reports this past week have revealed that Sodi, the businessman who landed himself the R255 million contract only to have this ultimately subcontracted out for less than a tenth of the value, made several payments to the ANC, including to individuals such as [Deputy State Security Minister] Zizi Kodwa, [Employment and Labour Minister] Thulas Nxesi and [Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies] Pinky Kekana.”

That’s a wrap of Steenhuisen’s public enemies, and here’s the full list in case you lost track at any stage:

Former SAA chairperson Dudu Myeni;
Former Minister of Water and Sanitation, Nomvula Mokonyane;
Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe;
ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule;
Deputy State Security Minister Zizi Kodwa,
Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi and
Pinky Kekana;
Oh, and Ramaphosa and his son, Andile.
