The Gauteng Education Department says the number of unplaced pupils in the province has reduced to 619 grade eight applicants only, as of Friday.
The department came under fire after thousands of pupils were yet to be placed.
A statement released by the department says that all grade one applicants have been placed.
The department commended principals in high-pressure schools for increasing their capacity to accommodate unplaced pupils.
MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi apologized for the inconvenience.
“The Department wishes to reiterate its sincerest apologise for any inconvenience experienced. We thank all parents for their patience during this busy period, and wish all learners well for the next academic year,” said Lesufi.
Let me apologize to all parents that went through pain and trauma because of this process. The number of parents that prefer to bring their children to our province is too high. Those who still have children unplaced, our team is hard at work. Apologies once more @Steve_Mabona pic.twitter.com/ytrrNP2GXY
