Two Cape Town women shot dead on Christmas Day

Two women aged 54 and 56 from Eureka Estate in Cape Town were shot dead on Christmas Day. Community members say the brazen attack on Christmas morning, was gang-related.

The husband of one of the women, Frederick Hess says he was visiting friends close by on Christmas morning.

“Then we heard the shooting. Then they told me my wife was also laying there,” Hess said.

“She died instantly.”

Hess says he will miss her as she was his best friend. He says they may have been targeted because of their children being gangsters.

“Maybe it’s because her children are gangsters. Now they’re taking it out on her because they cannot get to them,” he said.

Neighbours say they cannot believe the women were shot dead on Christmas Day. Christmas violence in the Cape didn’t end with these murders. On Christmas night police shot dead four men found in a hijacked car in Gugulethu.

One man escaped and one was arrested. Police also confiscated several firearms and ammunition.
