COVID-19 in SA: NTA to fine taxi drivers for not wearing a mask

The National Taxi Alliance says taxi drivers not wearing masks will be fined. Piet Mahlangu from the taxi alliance says they want to ensure drivers and passengers understand the urgency around COVID-19 regulations.

“We will not fold our arms and wait for the government because we are business people and what we are doing is that, when we stop a taxi, if a driver does not have a mask then we fine him or her on the spot,” said Mahlangu.

“For the passengers, if any passenger, in any of our taxis does not have a mask, we give them the mask.”

Santaco and the NTA in Tshwane are launching an initiative to encourage taxi drivers and commuters to comply with level three lockdown regulations.
