At least two people have died after tropical storm Eloise swept through parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo.
Cooperative Governance Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma gave a virtual update about the affected provinces.
Authorities say plans were activated after warnings were issued about the devastating storm.
Affected provinces are counting their losses.
“We are now in the process to assess the damage across all the districts where there has been flooding and implement short-term measures and relief the pressure from communities,” Dlamini-Zuma said.
Representatives from the three affected provinces provided feedback.
In Limpopo, roads were damaged and “bridges wiped away”, said Limpopo Co-operative Governance MEC Basikopo Makamu.
Mpumalanga’s Co-operative Governance Acting-HoD Sam Ngubane said a five-year-old boy drowned.
“The body has been discovered… there are two people who vanished and they are still searching.”
KZN Co-operative Governance MEC Sipho Hlomuka said there are 110 houses that have been partially destroyed under Umkhanyakude district in Jozini.
“We have given our people short-term intervention and make sure there’s no person… [that] doesn’t have a shelter.”
Authorities say we are not out of the woods yet as the storm may make its way back to South Africa.
