Mohale’s hubby Somizi in serious trouble – Cheating scandal takes new twist

Media personality, Somizi Mhlongo, Barleader TV, and Multichoice were served a summons for Dinner With Somizi, on Wednesday.

This follows months after Hastings Moeng accused Somizi and Legend Manqele, who owns Barleader TV, of stealing the idea of ‘Dinner With Somizi’ from him.

Dinner With Somizi is a cooking show that Somizi hosted on 1Magic. The show saw him cooking for Mzansi celebs at his home.

Hastings claimed that he sent the idea of the show to both Somizi and Legend in 2014 and 2016, via email.

Former Radio 702 presenter, Eusebius McKaiser who broke the story back in September, shared the papers that they were served with on Wednesday, on Twitter.

According to Eusebius, Hastings wants compensation from Somizi and the two entities.

He wrote: “Somizi Mhlongo, Barleader TV & Multichoice have had summons served TODAY on behalf of Hastings Moeng seeking “reasonable compensation” plus “15% interest” as the alleged originator of the concept Dinner With Somizi. Moeng wants the court to declare his verbal contract…

… as valid & binding (supported by email evidence that exists); wants the court to declare the concept underpinning Somizi’s show as Moeng’s brainchild & wants the court to direct “reasonable compensation” to be given to Moeng plus rights to contract future seasons etc,” he continued.

DA unimpressed as Speaker turns down request for urgent debate on Covid-19 vaccine plan

South Africa’s Covid-19 vaccination plan concerns all South Africans and warrants the continued oversight of Parliament, National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise said as she denied the DA’s request to reconvene the House for an urgent debate on the plan before the end of the year.

Modise said it can be debated in February after Parliament reconvened. On Tuesday, DA chief whip Natasha Mazzone wrote to Modise with a request to that effect.

Mazzone said South Africans were initially told that vaccines covering up to 10% of the population will be administered in the first quarter of 2021, but in his address to the nation on Monday evening, President Cyril Ramaphosa said South Africa had been “advised that we should expect the vaccines in the second quarter of 2021”.

“Coupled with reports that South Africa missed its second payment deadline for the World Health Organisation’s vaccination programme; indications of large-scale PPE [personal protective equipment] corruption; and our government’s generally poor track record when it comes to delivery, it is not unreasonable to be concerned that South Africans will be left behind while the rest of the world opens up their now Covid-free economies and resume normal life in 2021.”

Mazzone said an urgent debate of national importance will allow members of Parliament to engage Cabinet ministers such as Finance Minister Tito Mboweni, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma on their respective departments’ plans and the alternatives they considered.

On Wednesday, Modise wrote back. “National Assembly Rule 130 prescribes that a member may request the Speaker to schedule an urgent debate on a particular matter, but the member must motivate why it should be dealt with in terms of this rule and cannot be taken forward by other means,” Modise wrote.

“In this regard the rule provides that the Speaker must apply certain criteria when exercising her discretion.”

She said South Africa’s participation in the Covax vaccine procurement system is confirmed, but Mkhize still has to provide details on the vaccine roll-out plan.

“The roll-out of a Covid-19 vaccination plan is a matter of ongoing concern for all South Africans and warrants the continued oversight of Parliament.

“In view of the fact that the vaccine will now be available in the second quarter of 2021 as indicated by the executive, I believe this debate should be accommodated when the National Assembly reconvenes in February,” Modise wrote.

She added that the National Assembly Programming Committee will schedule the debate in terms of the rules.

“South Africans deserve to know what the details of the government’s vaccine plan are – and they deserve to know immediately because we can’t afford more waves of infection or rolling lockdowns.”

She said Parliament should not be content to wait on the executive to come with the answers on their own time. “Urgent accountability is required, and Parliament fails in its duty by not demanding answers.

The DA will be writing to the Speaker today, urging her to reconsider the scheduling of the vaccine debate,” Mazzone said.

“Just like the second quarter is too late for the vaccine, so February is too late for a debate of this importance. The Speaker’s decision demonstrates that the ANC still fails to understand that time is of the essence, and we are out of it.”

Parliament rose for the year in the first week of December.

The National Assembly’s rules allow Modise to reconvene the assembly “in exceptional circumstances” and after consultation with the Leader of Government Business, Deputy President David Mabuza, and party whips allow the House to sit.

In December 2019, the DA unsuccessfully requested an urgent debate on Eskom’s rolling blackouts after Parliament rose for the year.

WC Health and Home Affairs working to speed up release of bodies for burial

The Western Cape Health Department said that it was working with the Home Affairs Department to speed up the process of bodies being released to funeral parlours.

A Khayelitsha funeral undertaker said that major delays had been experienced at Tygerberg Hospital, where some families were waiting to retrieve the bodies of their loved ones for the past week.

The concern is that those who died from COVID-19 have to be buried within a five-day period but with the increasing death toll and patient volumes, the strain is felt on all levels.

The Funeral Federation of SA said that it was worried that the second wave of COVID-19 had created funeral backlogs.

Securing burial spaces, sticking to cremation schedules and ensuring parlours have space to store bodies are just some of the many issues.

Patrick Geva – a Khayelitsha undertaker who works for Ntsika Burial Society – said that it was difficult to satisfy their customers at the moment when they had to wait hours and even days for COVID-19 bodies to be released at Tygerberg Hospital.

“I wish that where they keep the bodies they’d employ more people because we wait, wait and wait. There are people, waiting there, that still want to go to Durban with their loved ones but they are stuck there.”

Tygerberg Hospital spokesperson Laticia Pienaar said that they were working to remedy the situation, as the facility was dealing with high patient volumes and more deaths than usual.

“In association with the Department of Home Affairs, there have been measures put in place to expedite the process. We apologise for any inconvenience.”

Horror as man killed over empty cold drink bottles and his both eyes taken out

The two recyclers had a fight over empty cold drink bottles, but this was no ordinary fight.

One man hit the other with a hammer and attacked another with a knife – and now the man is dead and his eyes are missing!

Fellow recyclers suspect the recycler, who’s disappeared, took the eyes.

By the time cops arrived on Monday, 28 December the suspect had already fled from Siyabonga Plastic Recycling in Pollak Park in Springs, Ekurhuleni.

Cops have appealed for help in tracing the suspect.

Captain Johannes Ramphora said a worker at the company found two men at the gate when she arrived in the morning.

“She found two males known to her as their customers,” he said.

“We believe the two men argued over a black plastic with empty bottles for recycling.”

He said cops were told a rubbish collector known as Shluthu assaulted the other one known as Nhlanhla with a hammer several times on the head until he fell down on the ground.

“The suspect allegedly took a knife and stabbed the victim several times on the upper body and he removed the eyes of the victim and ran towards Kwa Thema hostel,” said Ramphora.

He said they looked for eyes but couldn’t find them.

Another recycler said it was shocking that people were so angry.

“We suspect there was something else behind the attack.

“You can’t kill someone so brutally over empty bottles.”

The victim was certified dead by paramedics.

A case docket of murder was opened at Springs police station and cops are looking for the suspect.

Captain Ramphora said the suspect was wearing black tracksuit pants and a red top and is about 1,6 metres tall.

Anyone who has information can contact Springs police station on 011 365 5705.

Drama as Bheki Cele shouts at young man without face mask in public, orders him to be arrested – Video

Bheki Cele has wasted no time in enforcing his new legislative powers. During a police walkabout, the minister identified a ‘mask offense’.

No-one plays the pantomime villain quite like Bheki Cele during a tougher version of lockdown. The police minister was on from earlier today, after conducting a walkabout at KwaMashu taxi rank. The police minister was seen enforcing a controversial new law on mask-wearing – but the ‘offender’ managed to avoid detention.

Bheki Cele on patrol

As established on Monday, citizens can be arrested, fined, or even jailed for failing to wear a mask in any public space. The amended restriction has caused divisions across the country, but the ANC veteran was keen to test out his newfound legislative powers when he encountered a forgetful youngster.

The KwaMashu local explained to officers that he had forgotten his mask at home. This wasn’t good enough for Bheki Cele and his team, however. He ordered that the male should be taken to a police van – before community intervention helped spare him the indignity of becoming a very high-profile statistic.

Bheki Cele ‘willing to get tough’ on people without a mask

Locals vendors at the taxi rank came to the rescue of the dazed whippersnapper, with one business owner providing a mask free of charge. The police subsequently let their man go – after showing just how serious they are willing to take these guidelines on face-coverings.

In a 2-minute video clip that is doing the rounds on social media, an unidentified young boy is recording his father as he jumps into the quarry dam.

As the video reaches the 1-minute mark, the visibly tired father is seen trying to get out of the dam as he attempts to find a grip on the rock to no avail. Meanwhile, the devastated son continuously calls his dad who eventually drowns.

The devastating incident took place at Nkoyoyo Quarry Dam in Swaziland. Below is a video clip of a son recording his dying father:

NKOYOYO QUARRY DAM DROWNING AS IT UNFOLDED (Not for sensitive viewers)

Social media users strongly believed the deceased was irresponsible and went on to bash him as others sympathized with him.

Below are some of the remarks:

if quarry dams claim hundreds of lives yearly in the USA, what were we as Swatiland full of Demons superstitions of the most powerful evil water monsters……………………people pls avoid the waters specially the one from the holes of abandoned mines…………underground monsters do exist, even while mining, miners do get missing in many misterious ways……………remember Lille mine in SA , a container fell with 5 miners down to the bottom of the hell of the mine, seconds later the mine colapsed burring them forever….its been 5 years now still they cant be brought up becoz the getting them out was said to cost more than what the mine has made…….soooo that mine is now a tomb for them/// actually they were a sacrifice… fear the waters, fear the waters

May His soul rest in peace. What else can we say at this point in time. I pray that Jesus Christ to remove this data from the memory of the young one and comfort the whole family

the water is too cold and that can paralyze you and you get tired easily. since it is a pretty deep dam, and due to the fact it looks like hard water (splashes are huge, its in a quarry so rock salts can dissolve in it hence making it hard), it takes a lot more energy to float on it, so he got tired a lot more easily. there also seems to be a little current s which prevented him from holding onto a rock he was trying to do. Rest in peace family. Avoid deep, shallow, cold dams even if you think you are a good swimmer. we all learnt to swim on a pool which has totally different dynamics and current working it. There is no evil meaning behind this. Rest in peace and take it down for the family, especially daughter’s sake. She still has a lot of life ahead of her.

What happened is truly sad but I hope people can learn from this horrific incident. Drowning is very easy, it’s not as hard as people think it is, even for experienced swimmers and especially in quarries 60 seconds is all it takes. Quarries claim thousands of lives yearly in the United States. People have come up with all sorts of conspiracy theories…that the waters are haunted and all that which cannot be proven. What can be proven is that drowning is easy and that quarries are dangerous therefore people should avoid swimming in them.

Hippo on the loose in Joburg on New Year’s Eve – Video

It might be a fitting end to a strange year, residents of Johannesburg need to be on the lookout for a lone hippo on New Year’s Eve (NYE).

Social media users in the Fourways area have shared footage of the hippo foraging along a river.

The Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital said on Facebook that they had been made aware of the presence of the hippo and that the Gauteng Department of Agricultural and Rural Development (GDARD) had been contacted “and is on scene to assess the situation.”

“GDARD is the official organisation required to assist and make decisions in situations such as this one,” they added.

According to Live Science, hippos are aggressive and are considered very dangerous.

“The hippopotamus is considered the world’s deadliest large land mammal,” they say, adding that hippos kill an estimated 500 people per year in Africa, according to the BBC.
