City of Johannesburg plans to have more shelters

The executive mayor of says the city plans to have more shelters to accommodate displaced people as a short term measure during the lockdown. Makhubo says around 15 000 people have been displaced in Johannesburg and 2 000 people have been catered for since the start of the lockdown.

He took part in the opening of a new tent shelter in Turfontein Johannesburg. We are planning to have about 1200-tent village here. This is a short term measure. We will contribute irrespective of that it is not our competency.

Meanwhile, seven more people have died in South Africa from the coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the death toll to 86 as the number of confirmed cases increased to 4 361.

The Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize, says four more people die in the , two were from the Western Cape and one from Limpopo. The Western Cape is now the epicentre of the virus in the country, with a total of 1 514 cases. Gauteng has 1 304 cases and the Northern Cape has the least number of infections at 16.
