The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union has slammed Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula for his handling of suspended Prasa CEO Zolani Matthews.
Satawu says it’s clear that processes are not being followed at the rail agency.
Matthews was suspended due to a security breach.
Satawu says it’s deeply concerned that about the situation at Prasa.
Satawu Free State General Secretary Jack Mazibuko said, “it says a lot about the minister, at the same time we think when you employ someone in this position there are processes that need to be followed, checks and balances need to be made. We’re not sure if the minister actually did this. We are dealing with one of the SOE’s that is in a dire situation. Everyone that is appointed there, does not last. Prasa hasn’t had a CEO for the past 10 years.”
“Everyone that came was suspended and we are very much worried that there are no proper rules of governance being followed. The minister has to ensure that anyone employed there complied with the provisions of the law.”
