SA COVID-19: Call to raise Omicron awareness

People need to be made aware of the new COVID-19 variant and the importance of vaccination.

The NICD’s Adrian Puren says raising awareness is not scaremongering, but the right thing to do.

There’s been a spike in infections in recent days, with Gauteng leading the surge.

On Saturday, 3,220 new infections were recorded.

“I think making people aware that we do have a variant. This variant is very different from previous variants,” Puren said.

“I know there’s much to be learnt about this particular variant.”
