#Statecaptureinquiry: ANN7 editor’s evidence tested

The testimony of former ANN7 editor Rajesh Sundaram was tested at the state capture inquiry on Thursday.

Former president Jacob Zuma’s involvement in the establishment of the Gupta news channel was verbally alleged by Sundaram at the inquiry and documented in his book Indentured: Behind the Scenes at Gupta TV.

Three witnesses confirmed his testimony. In early June last year, Sundaram told the Zondo Commission that Zuma was instrumental in the creation of the Gupta news station.

Sundaram testified that he attended three meetings with the Gupta brothers at the official residence of the president in Pretoria.

A further two witnesses — one who worked and one who now works at the president’s residence — were asked to confirm whether Sundaram’s description of the meeting rooms in that house were accurate.

“Overall the description according to the book is correct,” said Presidential household manager Jacques Human. It was still like that when I returned to the residence in 2018.
