I am still alive says David Mabuza after month-long sick leave

ANC deputy president and the SA’s second-in-command David Mabuza is alive and well after taking a month-long sick leave.

Mabuza said this during the ANC top six officials’ post-NEC meeting media briefing on Monday.

Following mounting speculation recently about Mabuza’s health, “The Cat” – as he is affectionately known – has come out of the dark and is back at work.

Mabuza said it was shameful that some South Africans decided to spread fake news that he was dead. He returned to work 10 days ago, he said.

“I took leave for a period of a month because of my health condition and I was in the good hands of doctors in the country. So I came back. This is my 10th day at work,” said an upbeat Mabuza.
My health situation is improving, so I am grateful that I survived. Some of our people already were circulating information that I am dead. Well, I am still alive.”

Mabuza said it had been “difficult”, but he was pleased that he had come out tops from his illness.

The media-shy Mabuza also took the opportunity to address some issues pertaining to him within the ANC – one being the confusion over whether he had been cleared by the ANC integrity commission (IC) after the national general elections last year.

Mabuza said the issue was done and dusted as far as he was concerned.

Deputy President David Mabuza

This is despite the commission having early this month insisted that it never exonerated the former Mpumalanga premier.

Mabuza famously postponed his swearing in as the country’s deputy president and member of parliament last year, choosing to appear before the commission to clear his name first on allegations against him from his time as Mpumalanga ANC strongman.
He insisted however that he had been cleared when he was eventually sworn in.

“I made my presentation to the integrity commission … and then the integrity commission wrote their own report, seeking to say, ‘This comrade can proceed and do his work,’ – and that was presented to the NEC,” said Mabuza.

“It is in that regard that I was allowed to go back to parliament. I never insisted on going back. I was prepared to go the extra mile to deal with all issues raised by the integrity commission.

“So there should be no qualm to say we are undermining the integrity commission. As of now, the matter was concluded.”

Mabuza also expressed confidence that his “unity” project he started in Nasrec was well on track under the capable leadership of ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa.

Bheki Cele says officers who turn away GBV victims have no place in SAPS

Police Minister Bheki Cele says officers who refused to help victims of gender-based violence (GBV) were doing so in dereliction of their duties.

Cele was speaking at the security cluster ministers GBV and femicide dialogue on Monday afternoon.

Concerns have been raised about officers who turn victims away from police stations, leaving them without assistance.

The minister said the police force has taken steps to conduct sensitivity training for officers.

“Those officers who choose to comply with the policy of SAPS – which is to treat victims with respect and dignity – those officers who shame us by turning victims away, don’t have a place in the South African Police Service.”

Cele introduced a police directory to be used by victims to report mistreatment by officers at police stations.

“It will be easy for the public out there to be able to; if you are not assisted in your station, you phone the next in line until you reach the Minister or the commissioner.”

Nehawu to hold prayer service for health workers who died of coronavirus

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) is expected to hold prayers on Tuesday in remembrance of the front line workers who died after contracting the coronavirus.

The union is also preparing for a national day of action on Thursday when it will hand over a memorandum to the office of the president demanding that workers at the Department of Health be screened daily.

It also wants the government to set up a COVID-19 risk fund for health workers.

The Health of Department said that since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, 240 healthcare workers had died due to the virus.

Nehawu’s general secretary Zola Saphetha blamed the deaths on the negligence of employers.

“These workers have paid the ultimate price with their lives as a result of the sheer negligent and failures on the part of the employers, both the government and private institutions,” Saphetha said.

He said that their nine demands were to ensure the safety of healthcare and front line workers.

Saphetha said that the main prayer service would be held at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, but there would be other memorials held for front line workers at hospitals in all nine provinces.

Family of Nathaniel Julies wants officers charged with his murder to be denied bail

The family of a 16-year-old teenager who was killed in Eldorado Park allegedly by police said that the two officers accused of ending his life should be denied bail.

Julies’ uncle, Cyril Brown, said that they wanted justice.

“It hurt me that someone of our race did something like this at home, and they tried to cover it up. I’m glad that they’re currently in custody and there’s no bail at the moment,” he said.

Caylene Whiteboy and “Scorpion” Simon Ndyalvane appeared in the Protea Magistrates Court in Soweto after they were arrested on Friday following a preliminary investigation by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid).

The teenager’s family and residents blamed the pair for killing Nathaniel Julies, but authorities said that the teenager was caught in the crossfire during alleged gang violence.

The officers were charged with murder, defeating the ends of justice, and discharging a firearm in public, as well as using unauthorized ammunition.

They’re expected back in court on 10 September.

Former Comrades Marathon winner Nick Bester’s family lives in fear after attack

Former Comrades Marathon winner and running coach Nick Bester, who was severely injured during an attack at the weekend, has been discharged from ICU at the Eugene Marais Hospital in Pretoria.

This is according to his son Shaun-Nick, who said he wasn’t exactly sure of his dad’s condition because he had not seen or spoken to him due to Covid-19 restrictions.

“The only thing we’re aware of at the moment is that he was discharged from ICU and moved to the high-care cardiac unit,” he said on Monday.

Bester was attacked at the weekend, allegedly by three men. He sustained broken ribs and cheekbones. He was robbed of his gun and bicycle, according to Shaun-Nick.

The incident occurred just 4km from Bester’s home.
During the ordeal he was stripped and assaulted, and had his hands bound behind his back. He escaped down a mountain by sliding on his back until he reached someone’s house and got help. The incident has left the family traumatised.

“It’s horrible. We’re all struggling to deal with it. My mother was shocked and could not even think properly hours after it had happened,” said Shaun-Nick. Shaun-Nick, who is also an outdoor sportsman, said he now feared for his life.

While the family tried to make sense of the ordeal, Shaun-Nick said they suspected his father was being followed and his attackers had an idea of his routine. It was not the first time Bester has been attacked and robbed. He was robbed of his bicycle 10 years ago, about 2km from his house.

The organisers of the BrightRock Battle of the Sports condemned the attack on Bester, who they said was one of their sporting heroes.

Nick Bester

“We are absolutely shocked by the news of this assault and the sheer unnecessary brutality of the attack,” said BrightRock deputy CEO Suzanne Stevens.

“We are in constant contact with his team manager Bruce Fordyce and are awaiting further updates on the severity of his injuries. The … team is fully behind him and wishes him a full recovery.”

The Pedal Power Association, the largest recreational cycling organisation in the country, described the attack on Bester as gruesome, saying its members had reported a number of similar incidents in recent months.

“We’ve seen the attacks on cyclists in Cape Town, especially in areas around [the] southern suburbs. There’s been a big increase, not only of being robbed of cellphones, but it appears to be knowledge out there that bicycles are also worth money,” said chair Steve Hayward.

He said cyclists had become easy targets, and they have since been urged to cycle in groups.

“All we can recommend to people is to ride in groups, never alone and not in the dark. They [attackers] hide behind the bushes — you can’t see them at all — and they attack vulnerable people. It’s very seldom that they attack people in large groups,” said Hayward.

While the attacks seemed to be common before the lockdown, Hayward said these had increased in recent months.

Asked what measures people could take, Hayward said it was possible to be safe.

“People must rather cycle on pathways or areas where there’s a lot of traffic, pedestrian or motor traffic, because most of these incidents occur in areas where there is not so much human activity. We also plead with people to move around in groups,” he said. “People must not give up running and cycling purely because of this. We cannot be suppressed into not taking part in healthy lifestyles. People must just take precautions.

RDP houses fall apart after storm in Limpopo

The Limpopo department of cooperative governance, human settlement, and traditional affairs is once again in trouble over alleged shoddy work, with claims of a storm apparently having blown over RDP houses.

The National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) confirmed yesterday that the project was awarded to a company called Lempitse Trading, which was awarded 90 housing units, each costing about R115 000, totalling nearly R10 million. However, company director Lerato Duba first refuted this and later hung up on The Citizen.

“We have visited the construction site and checked seven houses,” said Limpopo NHBRC senior home inspector Fundani Mashele yesterday.

“Of the seven, two were poorly constructed. In light of this, we immediately issued a certificate of non-compliance to the service provider and instructed him to rebuild them.”

Mashele said of the houses inspected in past financial year, more than 150 were found to have defects.

“We get the contractor to rectify his mistakes or face harsh penalties, including blacklisting his/her company. In this case, our investigations revealed that the mixture of cement, water and soil was below standard. We could not blacklist the company because the owner agreed to rebuild the houses from his pocket,” he said.

Edmond Mbetse, a community activist and manager for Limpopo Speak Out programme in Phalaborwa, who spilled the beans about the alleged shoddy work, said: “We were called by residents in the Tshelang-Gape section in Namakgale, soon after the first house collapsed. When we got there, another house fell down in full view of bemused owners. We inspected the rubble and established that the contractors used half a cement and four loads of sand to minimise spending.”

Mbetse called on the department to appoint companies with good track records rather than “awarding tenders to their cronies” who knew nothing about construction. Departmental spokesperson Motupa Selomo said yesterday it had picked up the problem of poor workmanship as early as March.

“Following this, a non-compliance certificate was issued to the contractor. The constructor demolished the first house and as the second house was to be demolished, the Covid-19 lockdown was declared, bringing construction to halt.”

Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development Minister Thoko Didiza has condemned the brutal killing of a couple on their farm at Normandien in Newcastle at the weekend.

On Monday, Didiza said she had learnt with shock the news of the brutal killing of Glen and Vida Rafferty on their farm in the north of KwaZulu-Natal.

A statement from her office said the minister had condemned the barbaric act with the contempt it deserved.

Didiza called upon law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in apprehending and arresting the perpetrators of this senseless act.

Eskom will implement Stage 2 load-shedding from midday until 10pm.

The power utility explained multiple power generating units have broken down, necessitating the power cuts. Ten generation units at seven separate facilities have broken down.

Eskom warned that further deterioration of the system may mean load-shedding is escalated at short notice.

“As the aged generation infrastructure is unreliable and volatile, this constrained power system is expected to persist for the rest of the week,” Eskom’s statement read. The utility is urging all South Africans to use electricity sparingly.

Nathaniel Julies’ mom expresses hope after arrest of cops linked to his death

The mother of Eldorado Park teenager Nathaniel Julies, who was shot and killed, allegedly by police officers, has expressed renewed hope that the arrest of two police officers will lead to justice being served.

Julies’s mother, Bridget Harris, said she wasn’t sure if the two cops are the “real culprits”, however.

“The two who were arrested must start speaking [and reveal] who the real culprit who shot Nathaniel is,” Harris said during a march by the community to the Eldorado Park police station yesterday. She said they did not know the detained officers.

Clint Smith, Nateniel’s stepfather, read a memorandum compiled by the family and the community in the south of Johannesburg.

“We want weekly updates on the case from Ipid [Independent Police Investigative Directorate] and also provide updates to the families of those victims who were subjected to police brutality. We want police officers from Eldorado Park to undergo drugs tests so trust can be restored,” Smith said.

He also said that they demanded that the National Prosecuting Authority finalize Julies’s matter within six months. Eldorado Park residents have demanded justice for the teen.

The two officers, who are attached to the Eldorado Park Crime Prevention Unit, are expected to appear in the Protea magistrate’s court today charged with the murder of the 16-year-old. The pair will also be charged with possession of prohibited ammunition and defeating the ends of justice.

Julies, who had Down’s syndrome, was shot at close range last week.

Flowers and two white crosses were placed next to a truck at the place where Julies was shot. The scene is less than 100m from his home.

Florence Cotzee, a resident, said their children were not safe as they were constantly harassed by police officers.

“Police are always targeting our teenage children. Whenever they find them standing together as a group they make them stand in a line and search them. They treat them like gangsters or drug dealers,” Cotzee said.

She said Julies was probably subjected to the same treatment, which could have led to the police officers opening the fire on him.

“Lokies [as Nateniel is known in his community] couldn’t put four words together for a sentence. They probably spoke to him and he didn’t respond before they shot him,” she said.

Another resident, Simone Page, who saw Julies’s body being thrown into the back of a police van shortly after he was shot, refuted the notion that the teen was caught in the crossfire between police officers and a gang in the area.

“It was a quiet night. I was watching TV and I saw blue lights reflecting on my window. Then I heard a loud bang and ran to see what was happening. I saw two cops coming from the side of the truck. One of them was carrying Lokies, but I didn’t know it was him because it was dark,” she said.

“Then they threw his body in the back of the van and sped off. Lokies’s father came out after the shooting and was looking for him and that’s when we discovered he was shot.”

Ndileka Cola, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate’s spokesperson, said the two officers were arrested after Ipid carefully considered the evidence it obtained.

Anti-GBV group gives govt deadline to respond to demands

As Women’s Month draws to a close, an anti-gender-based violence group is giving the national government two weeks to respond to their memorandum as femicide and rape continue to plague the country.

The group, Anti-GBV Stellenbosch University co-ordinated a nationwide protest this weekend.

They want to remind government that “enough is enough”, saying that pleas made in protests over the past year have not been heard.

Demonstrations across the country went smoothly but in Cape Town chaos ensued in front of Parliament.

Police used teargas and stun grenades to disperse the anti-GBV protestors and bikers, who were protesting against farm murders.

It’s understood that a tussle started between the bikers and police and that 18 protesters were subsequently arrested. They’re expected to appear in court on Monday.

Anti-GBV SU’s Sandra Nagel said that protesters also handed over a memorandum at the Union Buildings.

“Core demands are to publicise the s.e.x offenders list; to legalize s.e.x work and for bail to be removed for those charged with s.e.xual offences. We also demand a disciplinary procedure system for police who mishandle gender-based violence cases.”

She said that the group hoped that the government would act and respond to their demands.

“We will carry on protesting until they [our demands] are met and until women, children and the LGBTQIA+ community is safe.”

Pensioner arrested after allegedly stealing R4.7 million UIF Ters money

He allegedly used almost R100,000 on himself. A 62-year-old pensioner from Hammanskraal scored a sizeable extra pension of R4.7 million by allegedly stealing the money from the UIF’s Covid-19 Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (TERS).

The Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation unit arrested him in Hammanskraal on Sunday for alleged fraud and theft.

This brings the number of arrested people linked to UIF TERS fraud to 14, said Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

Some of the suspects were out on bail, while the 62-year-old pensioner will be charged with fraud, and alternatively with theft and money laundering.

The pensioner was arrested after he allegedly failed to disclose that he became an instant millionaire with money that was meant to remunerate employees of a company that will be disclosed in court papers.

“It is understood the suspect worked for the same company and allegedly used the same reference number from his previous employers to apply for his UIF payout.

“It was later found after numerous enquiries by the company that the money was actually paid, but was redirected to the suspect’s account,” Mulaudzi said.

A case was registered and almost R4.6 million has already been recovered. He allegedly used almost R100,000 on himself.

He is expected to appear in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Monday.

Three cops arrested

In a separate case, Sergeant Thokozane Mchunu, 34, Sergeant Nqobile Witness Mzimela, 39, and Sboniso Percival Khanyile, 25, will also be appearing in the same court on Monday after they were arrested last week in Durban for alleged fraud and money laundering of R692,000, also linked to the same Covid-19 UIF fund.

National Adhesive applied for relief funds for their employees.

However, it emerged that the company’s banking details were fraudulently changed and the R692,000 was redirected to another bank account.

It was ultimately found that the account allegedly belonged to Mchunu, from the Durban Central Tactical Response Team.

He allegedly transferred the money to Mzimela and Khanyile. Almost R240,000 has already been frozen, a bakkie and an open piece of land were also seized and are expected to be forfeited to the state.

National head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya, has hailed the team for speedily arresting and bringing suspects to court.

This would not have been possible without a collective effort and the assistance of the National Prosecuting Authority, Asset Forfeiture Unit, Financial Intelligence Centre, Priority Crime Specialised Investigation and the intelligence community, he said.

“Pensioners are supposed to be role models to their children and grandchildren. Without suggesting the guilt on the suspect, the behaviour in this manner suggest a bad role model,” said Lebeya.

Julius Malema & Mbuyiseni Ndlozi’s assault case returns to court

The assault case against EFF leader Julius Malema and the party’s former spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi is expected to proceed in the Randburg magistrate’s court on Monday.

The case had been postponed in June because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Malema and Ndlozi were accused of assaulting a policeman in 2018 at the funeral of struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

AfriForum had pushed for their prosecution.

“Malema and Ndlozi allegedly assaulted a senior police officer in uniform in April 2018 during an incident which was recorded on closed-circuit camera. The senior police officer had opened a case at the SAPS, but it never received attention until AfriForum’s private prosecution unit started inquiring about the investigation in January 2019,” the group said.

Last year, Malema and Ndlozi denied assaulting the officer.

“I’ve never done that. If I laid a hand on him, I would have panel-beaten him. I don’t play when I lay a hand. I didn’t do that. Mbuyiseni didn’t do that. All we were fighting for was to enter the cemetery and go to bury our mother,” Malema said when addressing a crowd outside court.

Robbers crash victim’s new Mercedes Benz SUV against wall while fleeing from cops

A group of armed men crashed their victim’s new Mercedes Benz SUV against the wall while fleeing from the police.

Two of them were arrested and the other two are still at large.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon.

Captain Xoli Mbele of the Johannesburg police said allegations were that the three went to a house in Fairlands where they found a man busy washing his car. They were travelling in a Toyota Hilux bakkie.

Two of the men had firearms and one a knife, Mbele said. The fourth one was in the Hilux.

“He screamed alerting his wife to lock the door. They tied him with cables and rushed inside the house.

However, Mbele said, the man managed to untie himself.

“He managed to run to his neighbour and contacted the police. The suspects ransacked the house and took jewellery, cellphones, three laptops and an iPad.

“They also took some cash from his wife and damaged the TV mounted on the wall while trying to remove it,” he said.

Mbele said the fourth suspect who was waiting outside in the Hilux drove off, leaving his accomplices behind after seeing the victim running to the neighbour’s house.

He said the three men left behind took their victim’s new white Mercedes Benz SUV and fled the scene in it.

“Tracker signal was activated and police responded and saw the vehicle in Soweto. Upon seeing the police they accelerated speed and lost control, damaging the wall of one of the houses.

“One suspect managed to run away while two were apprehended. Police recovered a knife, some of the jewellery, laptop, money and running shoes.

“Some of the items were loaded in a white Hilux bakkie that is still at large.

Mbele said invesgiations were still underway and that the suspects were to appear at the Brixton Magistrate Court on Monday.

New evidence reveals airtime theft from Vodacom subscribers

New evidence reveals widespread airtime theft and fraudulent WASP subscriptions on Vodacom’s network and shows that the company failed to act decisively against the criminals.

The latest evidence follows an industry investigation which revealed airtime theft on a mass scale from Vodacom’s prepaid customers.

What sets the latest evidence apart is that it comes from a prominent company which uses machine-to-machine communications and IoT devices with prepaid SIMs from Vodacom.

It is therefore impossible for these SIMs to pro-actively subscribe to WASP services, which means this data provides conclusive evidence of fraudulent subscriptions and airtime theft.

The company’s chief executive, who asked to remain anonymous because of his relationship with Vodacom, told MyBroadband hundreds of their SIMs have been hit by airtime theft.

The company experienced theft on both brand-new SIMs and SIMs which have been in devices for years.

He said Vodacom refuses to acknowledge any problem and added that it is very difficult to get refunds for the stolen airtime.

Only around 5% to 10% of the airtime theft which they logged with Vodacom were refunded.

He said it requires considerable effort to get a refund, which is further complicated as it is impossible to approach Vodacom with a list of SIMs from which airtime was stolen.

“You need to phone in as a single prepaid customer and go through the motions of trying to convince them that the SIM is in a device with no human access,” he said.

Vodacom

“You have to hound them repeatedly to get the refund to be processed, and you often just give up after a while.”

The evidence further showed that the same WASPs continue to steal airtime from SIMs long after it was reported to Vodacom.

The data provided to MyBroadband stretches back for many months and conclusively proves:

There is widespread fraud and airtime theft on Vodacom’s network to this day.
Vodacom was made aware of this fraud and airtime theft, for a long time, but failed to act decisively.
The same companies continue to steal airtime from Vodacom’s subscribers.
A look at the data
The data in the table below are all from prepaid Vodacom SIMs installed in machine-to-machine and IoT units.

“There’s no way anyone has pulled out the SIM and subscribed to anything. We even detect and log when a SIM is removed from the device,” the CEO said.

Prepaid SIMs do not get invoices, but the company has developed its own logging mechanism which records airtime changes and subscriptions.

Through this platform each SIM’s airtime is checked regularly through USSD commands.

The company also continually runs USSD commands to query if there are any subscriptions.

If an illegal subscription is detected, the name is logged, and the service is removed using a USSD command.

He said most of the subscriptions are detected before significant losses are incurred, but occasionally they catch one that has R100 or more stolen.

The table below shows some of the airtime theft detected on hundreds of SIMs over the past two months alone.

It should be noted that this is only a small sample of the true extend of the fraud.

The evidence versus what Vodacom claimed
Over the past few years Vodacom has consistently made a few claims regarding fraudulent subscriptions and airtime theft on its network.

It has a zero-tolerance approach to any illegal activity on its network and takes a hard line against perpetrators.
It investigates this fraud when it becomes aware of it and suspends suspected WASPs during this period.
Its standard practice is to refund the customer first and then investigate the query later.
It introduced and enabled content blocking on all M2M and IoT SIMs in December 2018, which prohibits content subscriptions and purchases such as WASP services from these SIMs.
The evidence from this company and from previous cases show that Vodacom’s claims are inaccurate and misleading.

The evidence revealed that despite having been alerted to companies stealing airtime from their subscribers, Vodacom failed to take decisive action against them.

In some cases, companies which have been accused of stealing airtime from Vodacom customers for years continue to do so with impunity.

It therefore shows that Vodacom either does not investigate accusations of airtime theft or does not suspend suspected fraudulent WASPs during this period.

The latest evidence also shows that it is very tough to get a refund – even in the case of M2M and IoT SIMs.

This echoes feedback from other Vodacom subscribers who said they also struggled to get a refund from Vodacom.

In one of the recent reports the victim said Vodacom first tried to blame him and said the unwanted subscriptions were his fault.

He first had to refute numerous false accusations from Vodacom before they were willing to process his refund application. Even after all of this, he still did not receive a refund.

These reports fly in the face of Vodacom’s claim that it “refunds the customer first and then investigates the query later”.

Vodacom’s claim of content blocking on all M2M and IoT SIMs is also brought into question by the latest data.

All the SIMs which were targeted were M2M and IoT SIMs, which clearly shows it is possible to steal airtime from these SIMs through content subscription services.

This raises the question as to why Vodacom is not stopping this fraud which has been plaguing its subscribers for years.

Industry players told MyBroadband that Vodacom does not want to address this fraud as they are making millions in profit from it.

One industry player, who has been operating a WASP for over a decade, told MyBroadband that mobile operators are enabling this fraud and are well aware of it.

“No WASP can take a subscriber’s airtime without the operator fully knowing about it – and enabling it,” he said.

Another industry player said Vodacom has always seen this as a revenue stream despite the misery caused.

“It’s criminal and should be thoroughly investigated,” he said.

Vodacom responds
MyBroadband asked Vodacom whether any action has been taken against WASPs implicated in airtime theft.

Vodacom said it cannot arbitrarily take action against a commercial partner – WASPs included – without requisite proof or evidence of a contractual breach or fraud.

“Rest assured, should we have this information, we will ensure that appropriate measures are taken,” it said.

Commenting on the issue of refunds for stolen airtime, Vodacom said if it suspects that customers have been defrauded, it will ensure that they are proactively refunded.

“Should we have proof or evidence that customers were incorrectly debited, it follows that we will effect refunds to customers in addition to taking appropriate measures against fraudsters,” it said.

Commenting on the examples that Vodacom is not refunding victims of airtime theft as promised, it said “we cannot comment on examples that we have not had the opportunity to investigate”.

“Our standard Customer Care policy is to effect refunds,” Vodacom said. “We are fully committed to remedying instances where standard policy has not been adhered to but will naturally need the requisite customer information to do so.

Mafikizolo’s Theo Kgosinkwe on love and wedding plans

Mafikizolo’s Theo Kgosinkwe is still on cloud nine after recently tying the knot and told TshisaLIVE that he and his new bride Vourne are planning a huge bash next year. Theo was the toast of social media last week when he announced that he and Vourne had got married in an intimate ceremony.

It came just more than a year after Theo popped the question at his bae’s birthday dinner. Just days after their wedding, Theo said the Covid-19 pandemic had put a spanner in the couple’s plans, but love always wins.

Theo Kgosinkwe

I am a very happy and excited husband. My wife is also really happy. It is during these hard times that we strive to look for something positive, to stay positive despite the challenges. Love always wins, even under lockdown.” He said that the couple were now planning a huge bash in September or October next year, when friends and family could celebrate with them.

Because of the Covid-19 lockdown, we could not invite some of our family and friends, so we decided to have the celebration next year. A wedding is a celebration and you want those close to you, to be around. We felt like the biggest celebration will be held when things are a bit better

Theo Kgosinkwe

”He said that his fame meant that people were always interested in his love life but the pair are just “ordinary people in love”.“It’s really important that we keep certain things out of the public eye. Of course there is interest in our relationship, we are on social media platforms, but we choose what content to put out there and what is private. You can’t let your entire private life be out in public, some things have to be private.

“Despite the work I do, I am a normal person. My wife is also a normal person. We are ordinary people in love.”There has been no time for a huge honeymoon yet, with Theo and band mate Nhlanhla Nciza working hard on a new tune for popular children’s education programme Takalani Sesame.

They teamed up with the muppets to collaborate on the song, to celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary.“It was an honour to work on this project. When they approached us, we were so excited because we are big fans of the show.

They are one of the most successful educational TV shows in SA and have made such a difference to generations of children. We were humbled to be a part of it.” He said the tune they wrote is a catchy number that will entertain, and also inspire children.

I will be a billionaire someday – Cassper Nyovest

Rapper Cassper Nyovest has opened up about being a “baller”, saying that one day he will be a billionaire with the big boys. Most SA musicians like to consider themselves high rollers, raking in the cash, but artist Cassper Nyovest is pretty humble about his earnings.

Cassper Nyovest

The star took to Twitter when a fan asked him how he sleeps at night with such a high bank balance. Cassper told the fan he isn’t “rich rich” and he aspired to be that wealthy.

I’m not rich rich yet. I’m just balling! Rich rich is when you own a jumbo jet and you hire it out to rappers like me.” He shared that one day he would “a billionaire”.

Cassper Nyovest

Cassper often speaks up about being moneyed (or not). The star has previously said that he considers himself rich because he can provide for his family. He also took to Twitter earlier this year to express how grateful he is to be in a strong financial position, but said he doesn’t have Rihanna money.

“I say I’m rich because I put an amazing roof over my siblings who would be stressed about where they would stay or what they would eat during this lockdown. They don’t have that stress. I’ve done amazing. I am one of the fortunate ones. I don’t have Rihanna money though!”.
