Turkish Airlines plane makes emergency landing at OR Tambo airport

Passengers onboard a Turkish Airlines Airbus-A330 from Cape Town to Istanbul spent around two hours in a holding pattern over Robben Island on Thursday night.

Aviation experts tracking flights noticed the plane’s landing gear did not retract. After burning fuel for around two hours, the flight was redirected to OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park.

The runways there have more space for emergency landings. All emergency vehicles were alerted, but fortunately, the plane landed safely in Gauteng.
