WATCH: Muvhango actor Dingaan Khumalo(James) launches music career with amapiano song

Actor and TV presenter Dingaan Khumalo has ditched the “Mr Serious” hat he believes Mzansi has boxed him under.

He has played very serious roles on TV, from his character James Motsamai on Muvhango to presenting Speak Out and Mamazala, but Dingaan is ready for Mzansi to see his playful nature.

He is launching his music career in the amapiano genre and goes by the name DSK. He features Bhubesi on their single Gabadiya.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, the Muvhango star said venturing into amapiano was a way for him to destress.

“I love amapiano. It’s an authentic South African sound, and the shows I’m doing are too hectic. They are very stressful. I needed some therapy in my life and amapiano is the perfect therapy for me.”

He said he had to toy around with the name for a while. It was a tough choice between DSK and his other names while growing up in Katlehong.

“ When I grew up people would call me Ding Dong. Others called me Podesta and Siyabonga is my grandfather’s name. He gave me the name Siyabonga and that’s when I changed from Mokebe to Khumalo. I couldn’t go with Ding Dong or Siyabonga so I decided let me cut everything else and go with my initials DSK. ”

DSK is enjoying that Mzansi never saw this coming, but he said he is not that new in the music industry. His musical background dates back to when he was growing up and his family were a part of a choir .

After he met Bhubesi the wheels were set in motion.

“I met him at Moja Love when I was starting to shoot Mamazala, Bhubesi was doing hip-hop but he’s always wanted to do something on the amapiano side. He said to me he knew I had an ear for music and I can feel good music so he said ‘lets collaborate’.

“I was like ‘dude what am I gonna do in amapiano. I either sing or present. I can’t sing amapiano’. He said you’ll do rhymes and verses. I went into the studio and everything was flowing and I thought let me go with it.”

DSK is enjoying the ride because he is more financially stable.

He admitted Mzansi was not expecting this, but he hopes they will support him.

“That’s the fun part of it. SA never expected me do something like this. We are still in studio, we are finishing the whole EP but for now we are pushing this single. Very soon we will be taking the other songs.”

“ I’m not under pressure. I’m loving the music and I hope SA is going to be loving the music and we will hold each other’s hands through this new journey, just like they did with my acting career.”

Nota Baloyi fighting a costly legal battle with Shimza

Local controversial personality Nota Baloyi, has been taken to court by award-winning musician, DJ Shimza for damaging his reputation with comments he made on Twitter.

Nota is known for saying exactly what is on his mind, even if no one agrees with his opinion.
Famously known as Kwesta’s former manager, Nota’s opinions have seen him clash with several Mzansi personalities. Up until his “Famous Friends” brawl with Stogie T, most of Nota’s disagreements happened on social media.

Nota-Baloyi

In one of his October rambling spaces, Nota had mentioned that he was being sued by DJ Shimza, however, he never shed light on exactly why. A new report by Sunday World is lifting the lid on the court battle between Shimza and Nota and it seems the talented DJ is not backing down without a fight.

In a letter sent to Nota, Shimza said Nota’s words were wrongful and defamatory and demanded an apology and for him to remove and retract the statements and pay him R500 000.

According to the publication, Nota has defended himself and said his statements were in the public interest and came after the announcement that the “ministerial cook-off” would be held at Shimza’s venue.
In May, Shimza’s restaurant, The Hang Awt, in Tembisa, was in the spotlight when it was the venue for a cook-off with Minister of Tourism Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane and media personality Somizi Mhlongo.

DJ Shimza

The event was aimed at promoting township tourism but instead it caught public flak. Nota alleged that his alleged romantic relationship with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s communications officer, Athi Geleba, had scored him the government gig.

Photos: Pearl Modiadie Stuns As Host Of Mrs SA 2021 Beauty Pageant

Not too long ago, media personality Pearl Modiadie had the honour of hosting the Mrs SA 2021 beauty pageant. The pageant, unlike the infamous Miss SA, is held annually in celebration of married women in South Africa as part of the female empowerment program.Pearl Modiadie1

What has gotten tongues wagging however, is how stunning she looked during the event. We are still in awe at this personality’s sense in style and fashion, and clearly Mzansi approves. Taking to her social media, Pearl shared some of the behind the scenes photos and videos and let’s just say, no one can beat Pearl Modiadie’s drip.

Tweeps are agreeing that Pearl Modiadie is one of the most stylish Zalebs in Mzansi. In a video she posted, everyone is gushing over her beautiful gown with everyone asking her to reveal who she is wearing. Sure enough, Pearl gave the people what they wanted, after she tagged the fashion house responsible for making her look like the queen she is.Pearl Modiadie2

What we are more concerned about however, is how much this gown cost, because if there is one thing we know for sure, Pearl’s look screams money from head to toe. And while she has not actively revealed how much it cost her, there is no denying that it must have dented her bank account. But wait, this is Pearl Modiadie we are talking about, money should not be a problem for her right?

Babita Deokaran murder: 6 suspects to learn next week about bail application

The six men accused of killing Gauteng Health whistleblower Babita Deokaran will hear next week if their bail applications are successful.

Advocate Peter Wilkins, counsel for Phakamani Hadebe, Zitha Hadebe, Sanele Mbele, Nhlangano Ndlovu, Siphiwe Mazibuko and Phakanyiswa Dladla, detailed a myriad of grounds at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for his clients’ release.

His primary submission was that the State’s case against the six men was inconclusive.

Wilkins recounted that the State’s case included a confession by Phakamani Hadebe, which he now contested.

Hadebe maintained that he was brutalized to make this confession. The confession also implicated former health minister Zweli Mkhize in Deokaran’s cold-blooded murder.

Wilkins told court that Hadebe was instructed by police who tortured him to implicate Mkhize.

“The first applicant asserted he had been told he received instructions from minister Mkhize,” he said.

“He says he did not know minister Mkhize, he has no knowledge of him and he denies that he ever received such instructions.

“He says that as a result of the continued torture he eventually made a statement that claimed he was indeed instructed by minister Mkhize even though he did not know him.

“We submit that on the face of it, in itself this is a complete fabrication,” Wilkins added.

Deokaran was ambushed and gunned down outside her Winchester Hills home two months ago. She had reportedly just returned from dropping her child at school.

Her killing was suspected to be linked to her role in the investigation into dodgy personal protective equipment (PPE) contracts in Gauteng. She was reportedly a key witness.

The State believed it had a tight case against the six and opposed their bail.

Advocate Steve Rubin, the State prosecutor, submitted that the accused have not brought exceptional grounds to necessitate their release on bail

“The State’s respectful submission is that all six … failed to display exceptional circumstances and for that reason bail should be denied,” Rubin said.

Magistrate Simon Sibanyoni will deliver the bail judgment on November 9.

Suspects linked to the Mnquma Municipality R18 million road construction tender scandal in court

Three men linked to the Mnquma Municipality in the Eastern Cape appeared in the Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crime Court on fraud charges.

Zanemvula Ngovela, 54, former director for Infrastructure at Mnquma Municipality; Kubeshin Pillay, 42, and Soundrarajan Pillay, 60, sole directors of companies with their business entities, are charged with fraud and contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA).

Provincial spokesperson for the Hawks Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said the trio were arrested by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s (Hawks) Serious Corruption Investigation team based in East London on Tuesday.

“During the 2011 financial year, Mnquma Municipality planned, funded and managed road projects,” said Mgolodela.

“The Infrastructure directorate initiated the tender process for the construction and revitalisation of Butterworth Township Roads, which was awarded to Siva Pillay Constructions, which was a joint venture of two merged companies, Pillay Constructions and Brainwave Projects, that appeared in court today.

“The sole directors to the merged companies allegedly submitted falsified tax certificates and also fraudulent Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) certificates testifying on projects never done, thus purporting themselves to be competent for the job to be performed.

“In executing the aforementioned tender, the municipality had to confine itself within the Legislative Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act,” Mgolodela said.

Municipal manager at the time Ngamela Pakade, who is already facing similar charges, allegedly allowed the process to go through without ensuring the aforesaid relevant policy had been complied with.

Mgolodela said the investigation revealed the municipality had budgeted R18 million, but under their watch the expenditure went up to R36m, thus doubling the budget amount.

She said the municipal office ran at a loss of R18m.

“A complaint was thus lodged with the Hawks for investigation, which resulted in the arrest of Pakade, the current King Sabatha Dalindyebo (KSD) municipal manager, on November 5, 2021.

“He made a short appearance in Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crime Court and was released on a R20 000 bail,” Mgolodela said.

The trio joined Pakade in the dock on Tuesday and were each granted bail of R10 000.

The case has been postponed to January 18, 2022.

We are ready to deal with all the COVID waves, says Deputy Health Minister Dhlomo

Deputy Health Minister Sibongiseni Dhlomo said the department was ready to deal with a fourth and even a fifth wave of the pandemic.

He said in the Gauteng epicentre, where the Omicron variant was also present, the department had thousands of beds ready for COVID-19 patients.

Dhlomo is responding to questions in the National Council of Provinces on the fourth wave and vaccinations.

The deputy minister said the department had been engaging with provincial health departments to better understand their challenges.

He said the third wave readiness and existing infrastructure were still in place in Gauteng with over 4,000 beds ready.

“They kept on updating us that there will be a third wave, there will be a fourth wave, and possibly another wave. Therefore, you don’t dismantle whatever you have put in place. In Gauteng, the are 4,407 beds within the public hospital that have been reserved specifically for COVID.”

Dhlomo also touched on the Omicron variant, saying it could be devastating for the unvaccinated.

“We also know this because people who are vaccinated, even if they get readmitted, don’t do as badly as people who are unvaccinated. So, we urge South Africans to continue to vaccinate.”

Actress Deli Malinga opens up about her villain role on Umkhokha

Seasoned actress Deli Malinga has been an actor for more than two decades and finally landed her first leading role, playing Mamzobe on Mzansi Magic’s drama series Umkhokha earlier this year. While it is everything she’s been hoping for, she admits it has also come with extra baggage.

“It’s overwhelming because I’ve been in the industry for so long and have been praying I get a lead one day. It was so exciting and at the same time I was so scared. I wasn’t sure of the pressure,” she said.

Deli said this role is the perfect fit for her to showcase her range as an actress. She said there have been times when playing the villainous role has challenged her emotionally.

“When I was called again to reshoot the response towards my daughter being hanged and my daughter wasn’t there at all, I had to bring back the emotions. It was emotionally draining. I dug deep, very deep, to some of the most painful things I had to experience, like losing my mother at the age of 20. Every time I think about it, it gets me emotional.”

Deli went on a short hiatus to reflect and connect with herself again after they stopped shooting two months later.

“I needed a break after that to take away Mamzobe completely, because as time went by I realised it was too much involvement of Mamzobe with Deli so I needed my own space to deal with myself. I needed to be alone, no friends, no phone, nothing because I had to go through certain things I had experienced in my life. Writing, talking to my notebook.”Deli Malinga

Apart from the intense emotional demand that her new role required, Deli said she later had to deal with threats from some audience members who could not differentiate from her character.

“I saw people talking about this character and hating it so much, telling me not to go to the malls because they’d beat me up when they see me. Someone recently said to me they hope I have bodyguards.”

Deli said she’s since been cautious about where she goes out in public but through social media, she is finding a way to help the audience to learn to separate fiction from reality.

“It’s scary. I choose where I go. I don’t go to places where there are a lot of people because some can’t tell the actor from the character, so I’m very picky about where I go and use a mask and cover my face. I also don’t talk much because some can pick it up.

“I’ve seen Sindi Dlathu on The River, I’ve seen Connie Ferguson and Rami on The Queen so I knew I wanted to play Mamzobe my own way that will touch and shock SA. I decided to go on Instagram two weeks ago to engage with fans after the show and people love that.”

Former Jam Alley presenter Thato ‘T’do’ Mahlatsi released from police cells

Former Jam Alley presenter and rapper Thato “T’do” Mahlatsi will not be prosecuted for impersonating a soldier.

T’do was arrested on Thursday, 25 November by Community Police Forum members in Orlando East, Soweto, while wearing a full military uniform.

At the height of his fame, he was a member of Zulu Mobb with Desmond ‘Dez’ Radebe. He was also one of the people behind Jub Jub’s massive hit Ndikhokhele.

CPF members said they handed him over to Diepkloof cops, who put him behind bars for the weekend.

Police spokesman Captain Kay Makhubele confirmed the arrest.

According to police sources, it was the second time T’do was spotted wearing a military uniform in a week.

“Members of the CPF said the first time, they saw him in uniform leaving a house. They asked him what he was doing at that house because they suspected someone was selling drugs there,” said a police source.

“He claimed he was a community patroller and they let him go.

“When they saw him leaving the same house for a second time, they confronted him again. His story didn’t make sense. They asked him why he was patrolling alone and also asked him to explain the military fatigues, which he couldn’t.”

On Monday, 29 November the National Prosecuting Authority’s Phindi Mjonondwane said: “The suspect was released and will not be prosecuted due to insufficient evidence.”

Eskom tower collapses due to vandalism

Eskom announced one of its towers collapsed on Tuesday in Marikana in the North West. The power utility said the Bighorn Pluto Tower collapsed due to vandalism and theft and cautioned the community to avoid removing tower members and other equipment from the electricity structures, and to stay clear of the area.
Please treat the line structure as live as a safety measure. We request communities to allow Eskom employees the space to work on the line and to ensure repair of the equipment,” it said.

Eskom has encouraged community members to report any illegal connections or vandalism to its dedicated crime line 0860 037 566.

It has also urged all South Africans to reduce the use of electricity as non-essential appliances are placing a strain on the power system.
Our power system is under severe pressure. Please switch off all unnecessary lights, your geyser, pool pump, and non-essential appliances,” it said.

It has been nearly two weeks since the power utility suspended load shedding after seven of its generating units returned to service.

In November last year, the power utility saw the collapse of six towers outside Welkom in the Free State.

Police commissioner Khehla Sitole unfit for office – Ipusa

The Independent Policing Union of South Africa is calling on the National Police Commissioner to step down. The union says Khehla Sitole’s evidence before the South African Human Rights Commission proves he is unfit for the job.

The commissioner has been testifying on the deadly July unrest in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
The price was allegedly inflated at the time and there are questions about what the money was to be used for as the attempted sale happened during the ANC’s 2017 Nasrec conference.

The Presidency said that the president set up the inquiry in terms of Section 9 of the South African Police Services Act of 1995 and with Section 8 of the same Act, 68 of 1995.

These sections deal with the loss of confidence in a provincial or national police commissioner and the misconduct of these officials.

Comedian Trevor Noah dragged into Leon Schuster’s racism controversy

Leon Schuster’s Mr Bones 3 trailer was recently released and before the news kicked in, South Africans have already started complaining. Many have taken to social media where they discussed the racial undertones that often accompany Leon Schuster movies.

Many South Africans have voiced their concerns over Leon Schuster’s Mr Bones 3 movie which is set to be released in April 2022. The movie comes after people started criticising Schuster for capitalising on movies that ridicule black people.

Schuster also came under fire for his famous use of black face in some of his other works such as Mama Jack and Oh Schucks I’m Gatvol.

In June 2020, Showmax removed a number of his movies from the channel after citing that his content was “racially insensitive”. Just a few years before that, the comedian admitted that his blackface was racist while adding that he would no longer be using it for a comedic effect.

Many South Africans have since said that if Leon Schuster is in the wrong for his material then Trevor Noah should be. This is because Trevor Noah has also made jokes about black people.

WATCH: Desmond Tutu’s Granddaughter, Natasha Thahane Finally Clears The Air On R1 Million Bursary

Natasha Thahane has issued a statement via a video to clear the air after claiming she received funding from Baleka Mbete and the Department of Arts and Culture.

The actress who is the granddaughter of Arch-Bishop Desmond Tutu, got dragged this past weekend after she revealed in an interview on Podcast and Chill with Mac G that she was awarded hundreds of thousands of rands to go further her studies abroad in 2017.

She let it slip that Baleka Mbete obtained the funds for her and tweeps were enraged by this. She has since backtracked on her statement and claims she does not have a personal relationship with the politician. The actress ha denied having received R1 million from Mbete or the Department of Arts and Culture.

“I did not receive R1 million from Baleka Mbethe or the department of Arts and culture. If you receive to the interview you would realize that I was taken out of context and before I even go through the process I would profusely like to apologize to Baleka Mbethe and the department of sports and art and culture because when I watch back and listen to the interview it sounds like I have a personal relationship with mam Baleka which is not a case,” she said.

She said her first and last encounter with Baleka Mbete occurred after she was coming out of a meeting. She asked for advice after being accepted to study at the NYFA.

” She advised me to explore the department of arts and culture because they have funding opportunities and that was the first and last conversation. She did not make any calls on my behalf,” she said. According to her, she obtained R350 000 from the department, and the rest was provided by her family.

@Khanyile_BG “These are pure lies she should have just remained silence. When she was busy receiving millions without a due process for studying Art overseas in 2017 students were arrested, teargased by police for fighting to have access in universities via what was know as fees must fall

@MiZz_TooMe “This just made things worse . First of all, you explicitly mentioned in your interview that it was a phone call – now you ran into her? Secondly, bursary funding is limited to R250k. How did you get R100k additional funding? Lastly, in what ways did you contribute to the arts?

@Tembelaniwewe “Your statement won’t change the fact that you received a R1ml of funding because you are the granddaughter of Tutu.”
