Horror as sleeping man stabbed to death by his roommate

A 31-year-old man from Happy Valley in Cape Town has been stabbed to death, allegedly by his roommate. Walter Ncube, who’s originally from Mpumalanga, had been living in a flat in Cape Town since 2019.

His brother, Mthandazo Ndlovu, said they received a call from neighbours informing them about the incident.

“He was sharing a room with a man. We heard from neighbours they drank the whole night on Saturday and had fought about the rent money and food,” said Mthandazo.

He said Walter’s body was found on Saturday, 31 July, by a man who was fixing the door.

“They had noticed that he was not moving, even though there was a lot of noise,” he said.

He said his brother’s body was found covered with blankets.

“I think he was stabbed while he was sleeping because there was no blood on the floor,” he said.

Mthandazo said the family was heartbroken.

“We are struggling to accept his death. Maybe if the suspect can get arrested and explain to us why he took my brother’s life,” he said.

Mthandazo said Walter didn’t like fighting and he was a peacemaker.

Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said police attended the crime scene in Jubba Street in Happy Valley on Saturday, 31 July.

“Upon arrival, they found the body of a man inside the flat who sustained multiple stab wounds,” said Swartbooi.

He said the 31-year-old victim was declared dead on the scene by the medical personnel and the suspect is yet to be arrested.
