UKHOZI FM and traffic presenter Ayanda Msweli has been presented with a new car by Halfway Ford.
The handing over was held in Halfway Ford branch in Port Shepstone, south of KZN.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Ayanda said: “I was presented with a Ford Ranger Wildtrak top of the range 2021 model. The vehicle was a present with no conditions. The brand said it noted my work and contributions in communities, and decided to present me with the car.
“It said it understood that I sometimes drive in bad gravel roads, all in attempt to help poor communities. The vehicle is meant to make my job easier so I can travel and reach out to as many people as possible.”
He said he would only be responsible for fuel, otherwise Halfway Ford would take care of everything else.
“I was so touched by this gesture because I do community work out of my good heart, without expecting any gain,” he said.
This gesture came a day after Ukhozi FM listeners, as well as his colleagues Sipho “Sgqemeza” Mbatha and Nonhlanhla “Mroza” Buthelezi, celebrated Ayanda for the role he played in assisting people in need.
He said: “As a young boy, I had a burning desire to become a radio sport presenter. I did try to get into radio but luck wasn’t on my side. Little did I know that I’d get into radio via traffic announcement. When that opportunity presented itself, I grabbed it with both hands.”
He said that apart from doing traffic, he helped the needy through his Ayanda Msweli Foundation.
“My job is not solely to report on what’s happening on the road. It’s also to be the eyes of government and voice of the voiceless.”
Scelo Nyandeni, the Chief Operations Officer from Halfway Ford said: “We’ve been following his work and noted that he does over and above than what he’s employed to do. He usually visits the poor of the poorest in the communities and he does not get recognized for that.
“As Halfway Ford we felt it is not good that he uses his personal vehicle and so we decided to sponsor him with this car. This is a renewable sponsorship, after certain kilometres, he’ll return the vehicle and get another one. Otherwise, we’ll take care of everything including insurance, maintenance. ” said Scelo.
