Government’s power generation choices have been criticized as climate change activists call for a complete transformation of the Mineral Resources and Energy Department.
Young people in Cape Town have come to support the Global Climate Strike and to deliver a list of demands to Parliament.
Among the demands to the government – the group wants an urgent parliamentary committee to be established on climate, the climate change education in schools to be improved, and complete elimination of fossil fuel electricity production by 2035.
They are threatening legal action against the government if it pursues more coal-fired power stations.
