I should have listened to my mother – WATCH Khanyi Mbau’s boyfriend breaks as he regrets dating her

Khanyi Mbau’s boyfriend, Kudzai Terrence Mushonga, appears to be relieved as his “sweetheart” is back home in Johannesburg. But he’s also questioning everything that transpired between the moment he apparently dropped her off at a salon in Dubai and when she landed in Joburg.

Mushonga shared a video on Instagram in which he vents, but also makes sure to let his “sweetheart” know he still loves her.

After hours of searching for Mbau, Mushonga told his social media followers on Tuesday evening that she had just texted him to let him know she had landed safely in South Africa.

“I can confirm that my sweetheart texted me just now, she said she’s back in Joburg. My sweetheart just confirmed she’s back in Joburg,” said Mushonga.

Happy ending?
It is good news that Mbau made her way back home safely, and she confirmed that on her Instagram page with a video of her boarding a flight to Joburg, and a picture of her at her father’s grave.

“Dear Dad. It gets real up here. Thank you all for your texts , messages and genuine concern. I am home, safe and okay,” she wrote.

khanyi

However, there seems to be more to the story and Mbau’s brother Lasizwe almost spilled the beans in the comments section of Mushonga’s Instagram live.

“Not everything is about you. Do remember what happened that morning. You don’t want me to go there. Stop this,” said Lasizwe.

lasizwe spills beans

But Mushonga says he doesn’t know why his “sweetheart” left him in Dubai without informing him.

“After all we’ve been through together, I don’t know if this is the part where we’re breaking up or there was something urgent that I didn’t have to know. So all this time I’m going crazy, my own girlfriend is on a flight back to Joburg. We didn’t fight, we didn’t argue the same day that she left. I thought I’m just honestly sending a message. I should have known …things that I did just to make my woman happy, I don’t know if this is love, but if it’s love, it hurts,” said Mushonga.

He claimed the plan was for Mbau to use her skills to make money in Dubai because he felt she was not getting the money she deserved in her home country.

But now he does not understand why she apparently just packed her bags and left Dubai without informing him.

“Everything I had, I shared with you. I thought I was bringing you to Dubai so that we can be global, I said babe, South Africa is crowded, you don’t make that much, how about we go somewhere and just try? I registered a company in Dubai, with Khanyi as a 51% shareholder and she came up with a name. The plan was for her to do her social media stuff while I just do my regular work,” he said.

“It cost more than R100k to register a company and I paid for that even if I was fighting with my friends. First class, it’s on me baby. You should have just let me know. Was I really that bad to you? How many things of my own did I sacrifice just to … I should have listened to my mother. I never lied to that woman. She’s the first lady I never cheated on.”

Actress Lusanda Mbane(Boniswa) bids farewell to Scandal

Actress Lusanda Mbane left her corporate job to pursue her acting career when she joined Scandal! in 2016 as Boniswa, but now that her character has died on the show, she’s looking to focus on growing her business.

“I knew I wanted to stay five years because I wanted to grow the character, but about two years into it I started thinking the five years wouldn’t happen because that’s when she (the character) started getting dark. We decided this year would be the year I’m going to close the chapter on Boniswa,” she said.

Playing a villainous character was a “taxing exercise” that required her to dig deep into her own emotions.

“At some points in that journey I’d battle to come out of her,” she admitted.
“The journey for me started when I had to find Boniswa within me. To find darkness and give it truth is such a taxing exercise. You tap into parts of yourself you don’t want to tap into. I found her very emotionally taxing.”

Lusanda said while she enjoyed being a part of the production, she was glad she’d be able to begin another chapter and focus her energy on her business.

“I also wanted to start with something else. I’s been a beautiful full circle for me that I’m happy to leave intact, I’m happy to leave in it’s greatness. I’m proud and will probably miss it. I felt the business was so close to my heart that I wanted to give it its time but I couldn’t because I was committed to this contract.

“The blessing in the ending of Boniswa is I could take two or three months uninterrupted where I will be able to take this business from something that people already recognise into something synonymous when you mention SA black brands. I’m trying to get it there.”

WC brings vaccines to the young as Covid-19 cases spike among under-20s

As Covid-19 cases continue to increase among the under 20-year-olds, the provincial Health Department is launching another campaign to get more people vaccinated with the co-operation of pubs and other businesses where people socialise.

In its latest surveillance report, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said that as at the end of last week an increase in the weekly incidence of new cases among people under the age of 20 had been reported for the past five weeks.

The report said: “This could be explained by clusters reported from schools, following reopening of private and public schools, as well as transmission in the community as this increase preceded school opening in some provinces.”

The NICD said the increase in cases in children in the third wave could in part be driven by the immunity gap in this age group as adults were more affected than children in the first two waves.

Meanwhile, to mark the first day of spring, Western Cape Health MEC Nomafrench Mbombo has invited the18 years and over age group to the Rands entertainment spot in Khayelitsha, where she will be launching the provincial government’s #JabsB4Jol vaccine campaign today at 10 am.

Mbombo said the province’s objective was to take the vaccine to where young people were.

Speaking at the launch of UCT’s Community of Hope vaccine site at the university’s Forest Hill residence complex in Mowbray yesterday, she said: “I always say our strength lies in partnerships. We need collaborations that will ensure that we vaccinate many people within a short space of time thus ensuring that we save many lives and we save the fragile health system and the health-care workers that are on the brink of burn out.”

Attending the event, Premier Alan Winde said. “To those young people who have not yet been vaccinated, I encourage you to make use of your vaccine opportunity so that we can once again do the things we love, be with the people we love, and go to the places we love.”

UCT Vice-Chancellor Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng said, “We want our students, staff members and the community in our vicinity to have the protection the vaccine provides against the worst possible effects of Covid-19.”

More trouble for Prophet Bushiri

A software developer this week lodged an ex parte application in the Johannesburg High Court against self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri, claiming that the fugitive pastor failed to pay him after he was recruited to create an online platform for the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) Church TV channel.

In the court application, which seeks to be heard without the affected parties being served with court documents, Anele Beke is demanding R80 million. He claimed in the papers that he met the ECG representative he identified as Walusungo Mnyengmbe and discussed the feasibility of designing and creating a software-based platform to help the controversial church hold virtual sessions.

“Thereafter, further meetings and discussions were held with Mnyengmbe and various representatives of the first respondent [ECG]. I thereafter designed and created the platform and system, and subsequently presented it to the ECG representatives,” reads Beke’s affidavit.

“The representative contacted the second respondent [Shepherd Huxley Bushiri] in order to convey what they had seen and further obtain his approval so as to proceed with the project.”

According to his affidavit, a series of meetings were held and he was then instructed to order 100 000 set-top boxes to initiate the project.

“Subsequent meetings and brainstorming sessions were held in terms of which the design and operational function of the platform were discussed.

“Bushiri approved the project, and I was mandated to commence with the first phase of the prototypes. Mnyengmbe and myself continued communications with the view of finalizing the software and platform. The second phase of installing the prototypes was finalized and the systems were ready to be utilized,” reads his affidavit.

It further states:
During this period, I had made numerous financial and operational arrangements and entered into agreements with various service providers, all with the aim of executing my responsibilities to finalize the software and platform for the respondents.

He claimed in the papers that a written agreement was concluded with Bushiri on March 17 2018 and started with the set-up of the IPTV platform for the Prophetic Channel, and later licensed it and managed its content.

“In accordance with the agreement, the respondents were liable to pay a once-off fee for the set-up of the Prophetic Channel platform on our headed servers, and we shall receive 40% of all the revenue accrued from all the services offered and paid by each of the Prophetic Channel subscribers.

“The aforementioned percentage agreement was further applicable to all third party-generated revenue from the content placed on the Prophetic Channel, including but not limited to advertisements and items sold.”

He added that he made several attempts to contact Bushiri and his wife Mary for payment after the prototypes were delivered, even though he was not paid the initial fee for setting it up.

The respondents subsequently launched the platform in conjunction with the Prophetic Channel and consequently received many subscribers. I have yet to receive my rightful share of the proceeds as agreed on.

“I have incurred numerous costs in the set-up, design, and all-round creation of the platform, and I am currently in financial difficulty due to the expenses and circumstances surrounding the creation of the platform.

“I have made numerous attempts to obtain payment from the respondents, without success,” he noted in the court papers.

Beke refused to comment on Friday.

Efforts to get comment from ECG were not successful.

Suspect due in Knysna court over counterfeit dollar notes

A 41-year-old suspect is due to appear in the Knysna Magistrate’s Court today after being found in possession of a bag containing counterfeit US$50 notes estimated at R6 000.

According to Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani, the arrest followed an operation involving officials from the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crimes team, assisted by members of the Knysna Visible Policing.

The suspect was arrested thanks to a tip-off after an ’’intelligence-driven information’’ led the officials to a business district in Knysna.

’’A bank official was contacted for verification and the notes were confirmed to be counterfeit. The suspect was charged in terms of the Prevention of Counterfeiting of Currency Act,’’ Hani said.

Last year, a 28-year-old Johannesburg woman, Temwa Lisa Masoka, was sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of peddling counterfeit money in Mpumalanga and Gauteng.

The operation entailed the selling and distribution of fake South African and other foreign currencies to a prospective buyer. The currencies, ’’which were good enough to beat the counterfeit pen’’, according to SAPS, were meant to scam tourists.

J&J’s HIV vaccine fails in sub-Saharan Africa trial

Johnson & Johnson’s highly anticipated HIV vaccine failed to demonstrate adequate protection in a clinical trial involving more than 2,600 young women in sub-Saharan Africa, the company and US health authorities said Tuesday.

Though the vaccine was found to be safe, with no serious side effects, its efficacy in preventing HIV infection was just over 25 percent.

As a result, the “Imbokodo” trial that began in 2017 will now be halted, and the participants, from Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe will be told whether they received the vaccine or placebo.

But the company will continue a parallel trial involving men who have sex with men and transgender individuals that is taking place in the Americas and Europe, where vaccine composition differs and so do the prevalent HIV strains.

In a statement, Paul Stoffels, chief scientific officer of J&J thanked the women who participated and the company’s partners.

“While we are disappointed that the vaccine candidate did not provide a sufficient level of protection against HIV infection in the Imbokodo trial, the study will give us important scientific findings in the ongoing pursuit for a vaccine to prevent HIV,” he said.

“We must apply the knowledge learned from the Imbokodo trial and continue our efforts to find a vaccine that will be protective against HIV,” added Anthony Fauci, director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases which co-funded the study.

The J&J vaccine uses similar adenovirus technology to its Covid-19 vaccine, and was delivered with four vaccinations over a year.

A genetically modified cold virus delivers genetic cargo carrying instructions for the host to develop “mosaic immunogens” — molecules capable of inducing an immune response to a wide variety of HIV strains.

The last two doses also contained proteins that are found on the HIV virus itself, as well as a substance called an “adjuvant” that is meant to further spur the immune system.

The trial was analyzed two years after the women, who were aged 18-35, received their first dose.

Researchers found that 63 participants who received the placebo and 51 who received the vaccine became infected with HIV, meaning the efficacy was 25.2 percent.

The participants were offered pre-exposure prophylaxis medication (PrEP) to help prevent HIV infection during the clinical trial.

The women who acquired HIV infection were directed to medical care and offered antiretroviral treatment.

– Quest continues –
In the four decades since the first cases of what would come to be known as AIDS were documented, scientists have made huge strides in HIV treatment, transforming what was once a death sentence to a manageable condition.

Oral PreP, when taken every day, reduces the risk of infection by 99 percent.

But because access to medication remains unequal across the world and even within wealthy countries, a vaccine that would train the human system to ward off infection remains a high priority.

This month, Moderna began a trial of two vaccines based on the same mRNA technology behind its Covid vaccine, according to a listing on a US government website.

HIV is especially hard to produce a vaccine against, in part because it quickly incorporates itself into its host’s DNA.

Ex-Presidency spokesperson Khusela Diko fired, but not really

The Presidency has finalized its disciplinary process against former presidential spokesperson Khusela Diko, and found that she failed to disclose her interests in certain companies as required by public service regulations on the disclosure of financial interests, but this doesn’t mean she will be fired.

Following the disciplinary process, Diko has been served with a written warning for the offence.

“The action taken by the Presidency management was in compliance with a recommendation by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) that Ms Diko be disciplined for her failure to disclose certain interests. This recommendation arose from an SIU investigation into government’s procurement of Covid-19 personal protective equipment,” said the Presidency in a statement on Tuesday.

While it was widely reported earlier that Diko had been reinstated to her position of spokesperson, the Presidency said she would not be returning to the office.

Diko, who is currently on maternity leave, will be moved to a different position in the public service, while Tyrone Seale continues as acting spokesperson to the President.

The Presidency initiated an internal disciplinary process against Diko after she took special leave in July 2020, in light of an investigation by the SIU into personal protective equipment (PPE) procurement at the Gauteng department of health.

This was in relation to the awarding of two contracts by the provincial department of health to Royal Bhaca, a company owned by Diko’s late husband, Thandisizwe Diko.

“During its investigation, the SIU did, however, identify a concern regarding Ms Diko’s duty to disclose all her financial interests. On the basis of a referral from the SIU on her failure to disclose her financial interests, the Presidency has decided to initiate an internal disciplinary process against Ms Diko.

“The relevant processes prescribed in the Public Service Regulations and related documents will be triggered and handled by the acting director-general of the Presidency, including consideration of whether Ms Diko remains on special leave or is formally suspended pending the disciplinary process,” the Presidency said at the time.

Microsoft Windows 11 Release Date Announced

Microsoft’s new operating system, Windows 11, will officially launch on 5 October 2021. In a blog post on Tuesday, Windows Marketing general manager Aaron Woodman confirmed the upgrade will be free to Windows 10 users.

The operating system will be rolled out in phases from 5 October, beginning with new eligible devices and expanding to devices already in the market in the coming months.

Woodman explained this was being done based on the company’s “tremendous learnings from Windows 10” to ensure it provides users with the best possible experience. The rollout will be based on Microsoft’s models that consider hardware eligibility, reliability metrics, device age, and other factors that impact the upgrade experience.

Woodman said Microsoft expects all eligible devices to be offered the free upgrade to Windows 11 by mid-2022. Woodman highlighted several key features that will be available in the new OS:

New design and sounds.
New Start menu puts content at the centre of the desktop and shows recent files from the cloud and Microsoft 365.
Snap Layouts, Snap Groups, and Desktops provide more multitasking options.
Chat from Microsoft Teams is integrated into the taskbar.
Widgets, a new personalised feed powered by AI, promises a faster way to access the information you need.
Enhanced gaming with DirectX12 Ultimate, DirectStorage, and Auto HDR.
Rebuilt Microsoft Store.
Accessibility improvements built for and by people with disabilities.
New opportunities for developers and creators with the Microsoft Store, and new developer tools.
Optimisations for speed, efficiency, and better experiences with touch, digital pen, and voice input.

Notably, however, the list did not include the much-hyped integrated support for Android apps. Woodman said this feature will only be in preview for Windows Insiders in the coming months.

Windows Update will notify users with eligible Windows 10 PCs when the Windows 11 update is available for their systems. You can also check to see if Windows 11 is ready for your computer by going to Settings > Windows Update and selecting “Check for updates“.

Preview versions of the OS are also available to members of the Windows Insider programme in the Dev and Beta channels.

To join this programme and try Windows 11 out early, navigate to Settings > Windows Update and choose “Windows Insider Program” to opt-in. The update will then become available to you under the Windows Update tab

Helen Zille suspicious of ANC’s electoral court withdrawal

The African National Congress (ANC) has reportedly withdrawn its application to the electoral court to force the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to reopen the candidate registration process ahead of the local government elections in October.

Last week, ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte said the party would approach the electoral court to force the IEC to open candidate registration for one extra day.

Duarte said the ANC faced a number of challenges when submitting its list of candidates to contest the polls. She said the IEC’s registration system repeatedly froze and locked its administrators out during the final few hours before the deadline last Monday.

This followed the closure of the IEC’s submission of candidates for registration ahead of the local polls, scheduled for 27 October 2021.

According to SAfm, at least seven municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal are among the 30 that missed the IEC registration deadline of candidates. Most affected municipalities within the province are in the Zululand District, which contains five local municipalities, it said.

According to ANC KZN secretary Mdumiseni Ntuli, the party did not secure the registration of all PR candidates in Edumbe, Phongolo, Abaqulusi, Ulundi, and Nongoma local municipalities.

“The ANC is also without wards candidates in oPhongolo wards 4, 10 and 11, Abaqulusi wards 1, 5 and 7, Nongoma wards 8, 9, 12 and 17, Ulundi wards 7 and 12. In General Gizenga Maqina Mpanza region we do not have ward candidates registered in KwaDukuza wards 2, 6, 10, 20, 22 and 24. In Ndwedwe wards 11, 12, 13 and 15. In Mandeni ward 15 and Maphumulo ward 2,” he said on Tuesday.

The ruling party’s application withdrawal has raised eyebrows, with most questioning if the decision has anything to do with the outcome of the IEC’s application to the Constitutional Court.

Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance (DA) federal council Helen Zille claimed there was more to the ruling party’s application withdrawal.

“So, apparently the ANC is now withdrawing its appeal to the Electoral Court to re-open candidate registration. There seems to be a lot more to this story than meets the eye. And we need to expose it,” tweeted Zille on Tuesday evening.

How you can get the psychosocial support needed to survive lockdown

South Africa is probably experiencing one of its most stressful periods in modern history.

As part of the global village, together with the rest of the world, we are experiencing an ongoing pandemic, the likes of which has not been seen for over a 100 years. This has led to periods of lockdown, social isolation, and the trauma.

The lockdowns came at a very difficult time in our country’s history. Many more people lost their jobs and stress levels increased dramatically.

Through millennia, human beings have always found comfort and support from one another. Support of family members and friends make life more bearable.

Now the lockdowns and many people having to work from home have disrupted the normal support systems of individuals. Daily routines have been turned upside down.

Working hours have increased and the boundaries between work and home life have become blurred. This has led to many cases of burnout and depression.

Underlying psychosocial problems which have been contained under normal circumstances started surfacing.

Families as a whole have become very stressed and marital difficulties appeared in many cases.

The recent riots and looting may be seen as symptoms of the underlying stress and frustrations in South African society.

How can one get the psychosocial support needed to survive these stressful times?

On an individual level, there is a lot one can do.

  • Firstly, do everything you can to break your isolation. Keep in touch with family, friends, and even colleagues regularly.
  • Now is the time to visit your psychologist or psychiatrist.
  • If you work from home, define your working hours clearly and stick to them. Move away from your workstation after hours and do not get tempted to work when you are officially on down time.
  • Remember, isolation is your enemy when feeling hopeless or in despair. Fight it by taking deliberate and concrete action to break the loneliness. Break your routine. Get out of your home over weekends.
  • Use all the psychosocial support systems at your disposal to keep in contact with others and to maintain a healthy sense of being during these trying times.

Du Toit has a PhD in clinical psychology and is a registered clinical psychologist based at Life Poortview. He has more than 25 years’ experience.

Child’s best interest must take precedence at all times – expert

A child’s best interests are of paramount importance in every matter concerning the child in terms of Section 28(2) of the constitution, says Centre for Child Law director Karabo Ozah.

Ozah said this section required that where there were competing interests in a matter, the interests of the child must receive the highest consideration.

“Furthermore, in a decision, it must clearly be explained how what is in the best interests of the child was determined and where the decision limits the child’s rights,” she said.

In disputes about parental responsibilities and rights, the court has to make a decision that safeguards and promotes the best interests of the child, she added.

The determination of what was in the best interest of the child would depend on the facts of each case – in line with what section 28(2) of the constitution required.

“Section 7 of the Children’s Act 38 of 2005 lists factors that a court must consider in the process of determining what is in the best interests of the child,” Ozah said.

The child may at times be appointed a legal representative or curator ad litem to make submissions to the court concerning what the child wants and what would be in the best interests of the child, particularly when the matters are areas of high conflict.

COVID-19: Limpopo govt fears slow pace of vaccinations will increase joblessness

Limpopo, which leads the country in domestic tourism, has fears the slow pace of Covid vaccinations will increase joblessness, poverty, and underdevelopment for its 5.8 million population.

According to the recent Statistics SA Quarterly Labour Force Survey, despite the 9 000 jobs gained during the period under review, Limpopo’s official year-on-year unemployment rate increased by 8.5 percentage points from 21.9% to 30.4%.

Speaking during the Tourism Lekgotla in Polokwane last week, Limpopo treasury MEC Charles Seaparo Sekoati said the tourism sector held pole position countrywide in domestic travel with approximately 22.2 million visits.

But he said this may change soon as it was an open secret that the tourism sector in the province was hard-hit by the pandemic.

Sekoati said tourism was playing a major role in the province’s economy as it was creating much needed jobs, fighting poverty, and the escalating unemployment rate that continued to wrack havoc in the province.

“We have been doing well with regard to both domestic and international travels,” he said.

“The scenic beauty of Limpopo is unmatched.

“The dramatic landscapes of our mountains and the rivers, the inviting beauty of our flora and the rich diversity of our fauna remain without a true counterpart.”

Sekoati added that if the province was serious about preventing escalating job losses, it will then achieve population immunity from Covid.

“We can only achieve this if we get many of our people vaccinated against Covid. Our country is among the very few in the world with sufficient vaccine doses for its population.

“The challenge is for all of us to go out there and get our jabs. This is an urgent thing to do if we have to recover the lost ground because tourism is key to economic recovery.”

According to Limpopo health MEC Phophi Ramathuba, more than 1.2 million of the 5.8 million population have already been vaccinated – with the majority of those vaccinated being female.

Minister Lindiwe Zulu withdraws green paper on social security reform

Social development minister Lindiwe Zulu has withdrawn the green paper on comprehensive social security and retirement reform less than two weeks after it was first gazetted to much controversy in August.

The withdrawal was effected by a notice in the government gazette on Tuesday. It gave no reasons for the withdrawal. Zulu caught the market by surprise in August when she suddenly published the paper, without going through the cabinet or the National Treasury to test it against existing tax and fiscal policy.

It also emerged that it had ignored a report by the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac) setting out risks and problems raised by business.

Business also stated that the green paper largely reproduced a 2016 version, while Treasury deputy director-general Ismail Momoniat said it reflected some of the aspirations of the various constituencies in Nedlac, with consensus still to be reached.

Trade unions were also strongly opposed to the proposal that all employees would be mandated to contribute 8% to 10% of their qualifying earnings up to R276,000 to a state-run national social security fund which would pool resources to provide retirement, survivor, disability and unemployment benefits. The high limit also raised concern that it would trash the business model of the private savings industry, a major funder of a government that saw its finances come under severe pressure because of the Covid-19 induced economic slump.

Gauteng transport department: Request a slot to speed up renewals

In an attempt to solve the driver’s licence renewal backlog in Gauteng, the department of roads and transport may have made the system more complicated.

On Tuesday, the Gauteng transport department announced the launch of the request-a-slot campaign.

However, experts said that instead of implementing technological solutions, the department should fix the system entirely.

Automobile Association (AA) spokesperson Layton Beard said they were not sure if the requesta-slot online process was going to solve the problem, or ease the pressure, but that the whole system required change.

“Everything the minister announced on Friday in terms of new IT infrastructure, new machines and equipment, longer hours, online payments, and submission of eye tests by optometrists are the type of things we are looking at,” he said.

“The eNaTIS system at the moment is slow and sometimes it’s even offline, which is a base problem and needs to be rectified.” MEC Jacob Mamabolo and the Road Traffic Management Corporation said they would introduce a request-a-slot app and e-mails to use as booking platforms.

The MEC said people would be able to book via e-mail and the request-a-slot app, which would be launched today, as an alternative to the eNaTIS website system.

Driving.co.za managing director Rob Handfield-Jones said the government had been trying to implement technological solutions which it was not competent to implement. It should go back to what had worked.

“What worked was just letting people walk into testing stations on a first come, first served basis and it worked for 17 years,” he said.

“Everything the government has tried from a technological point of view hasn’t worked.”

He said the whole licensing system from top to bottom was a story of corruption.

“You can buy a licence, you can buy a slot, there really isn’t anything in road safety in SA that you can’t buy and that is a problem that they need to fix.”

Mamabolo said more sites would be opened for renewal of driver’s and learner’s licences and operating hours extended.

He also confirmed that centres would operate seven days a week from 7 am to 9 pm.

Actress Eve Rasimeni desperate to find love

Actress Eve Rasimeni has decided to find love in an unconventional way.

She has joined Showmax’s new dating show Temptation Island South Africa in her attempt to find romance.

Eve, known for her roles in South African productions like Suidooster, Z’bondiwe, Thola and 7de Laan, will now be gracing the screens as a contestant on the dating show.

Eve, together with rapper Gigi Lamayne, comedian Tats Nkonzo and reality TV star MJ Maponya, have joined the show to find love. The first episode has been released on the streaming service and more episodes will drop every Thursday until 3 November.

Eve told SunBuzz her friend convinced her to join the show.

“My best friend told me about the show because she said one of us has to be in a relationship.

“She said people love my personality and I would do great. And I thought I have nothing to lose because even the traditional way of finding love isn’t working for me. And maybe I can get love from the show.”

She said her dating life before the show was a mess.

“It has been a rollercoaster, so much that I can count a few relationships that have been meaningful and genuine.

“Sometimes you find people, but they are not yours, with some, you find out you are not alone. My relationships never go anywhere,” said Eve.

“I have, however, tried online dating. Actually, my longest relationship, which ended right before I joined Temptation Island, was with someone I met on Tinder. That relationship was amazing and I saw that there are still good guys out there,” she said.

Eve said the experience of being in the show was a learning curve.

They have finished filming.

“Without giving too much away, my experience was life changing. As much as I was looking for love, I also reflected on myself in a spiritual manner and I walked away with so much. I came back with a whole new confidence and as a new person. I got to experience who I am, especially in a relationship. I also met a lot of good people there,” she said.

The actress said viewers will not expect the show to go the way it will go.

“The plot twists are crazy. People will expect something, and it will change unexpectedly. For my journey, I did not expect the way I ended up. People are going to enjoy it, and some will criticise us,” she said.

Dr Morgan Mkhatshwa denies suicide incidents at Life Esidimeni

Former Managing Director of Life Esidimeni, Dr Morgan Mkhatshwa has denied any knowledge of mentally ill patients suffering from malnourishment or incidents of suicide at the center during his tenure.

Mkhatshwa is one of the key witnesses at the inquest taking place at the North Gauteng High Court, into the deaths of 144 mentally-ill patients who were transferred to ill-equipped NGOs. Mkhatshwa has also rejected accusations of a shortage of clothing and blankets for the patients. He’s testified that all natural deaths were investigated and reported to the relevant authorities.

“Every death at Life Esidimeni was investigated and reported to the Department of Health. Commissioner asked, “Unnatural deaths in a sense that there will suicide in the facilities?” to which Mkhatshwa responded, “As indicated, all natural deaths would be investigated.”

When the commissioner put it to Mkatshwa that some of the concerns raised were that patients were “in a bad state, sickly, frail and malnourished,” Mkhatshwa responded, “Absolutely untrue.” The inquest sitting in the High Court in Pretoria resumed on Monday morning following a four-week break.

The patients died between March and December 2016 after the Gauteng Health government had moved them from Esidimeni to various ill-equipped NGOs. Life Esidimeni charged the department at least R250 million per annum for just over 2 000 patients.

Mkhatshwa, who was questioned on Monday about the escalating year-on-year tariff increases, told the inquest that the Consumer Price Index partly influenced them.

“You will also take cognisant of the fact that there were certain years where we struggled to get any tariff increase. So, those would then be borne by company and had to be made up for in another year. So, all those factors would need to be done so that you get a full picture as (to) why the numbers increased the way you are mentioning there,” says Mkhatshwa.
