Doctors are calling for retailers and restaurants to close as COVID-19 infections run riot.
However, the Gauteng government says tighter lockdown restrictions will send the local economy into further decline.
The premier’s coronavirus council is expected to meet next week to reassess the rate of infections and whether more restrictions are required.
Meanwhile, South Africa recorded 10,510 new infections and 118 deaths.
It’s Gauteng that’s really suffering, as it recorded 6,969 of the new cases.
