Mzansi celebrates 27 years of democracy #FreedomDay2021

It’s 27 years since South Africa held its first democratic elections. The 1994 elections allowed for every eligible voter to go make their mark, regardless of race. The elections also allowed for a new constitution.

Almost 30 years into democracy, South Africa remains one of the world’s most unequal societies. Coronavirus has also been blamed for high levels of unemployment, hunger and poor health.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to lead the Day’s celebration under the theme “The year of Charlotte Maxeke, The meaning of Freedom under COVID-19”. He will deliver the keynote address in Botshabelo in the Free State.
