SA Council of Churches disgusted by looting allegations

The South African Council of Churches said it’s disgusted by allegations of rampant looting of funds meant to save lives during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The organization said corruption shamefully takes away from poor, desperate South Africans and it’s called on law enforcement to bring those responsible to book.

Bishop Malusi Mpumlwana from the South African Council of Churches said “it is the right thing for all people in public office, once there are any suggestions of impropriety, whether proven or not, it’s an appropriate thing to step aside, and I think proper investigations have to be done.”

The bishop said it is encouraging that specific deadlines for action have been mentioned in recent statements made against corruption by President Cyril Ramaphosa and Gauteng Premier David Makhura.
