Twitter thinks Minnie Dlamini’s friendship with Lorna Maseko is Fake

South African media personality, Minnie Dlamini-Jones, took to Twitter to thank her new friend, Lorna Maseko for special delivery. The tweet, which casually stated, “Got a special delivery from my girl… You got skills mama.”, caught the attention of her followers, who found her message rather insincere.

Minnie Dlamini

Many made mention of the fact that Minnie had fallen out with Lorna’s ex-bestie, Bonang Matheba, and claimed that Minnie’s tweet was intended to rub the new-found friendship in Queen B’s face.

Lorna Maseko

Some also claimed that Minnie thanking Lorna for the delivery was a dig at Bonang, who had been gifting A-listers with presents in promotion of his upcoming reality documentary, A Very Bonang Year. Amie Bogale stated, “LOL, my girl. Yhooo mar celebrity friendships are such a joke. So 1 minute you jump from being friends with someone and then you befriend their enemy. Wow.”

4 arrested, including a CFO and an attorney, after KZN college defrauded of R30 million

The chief financial officer allegedly approached Coastal KZN TVET College with an investment proposal, said Hawks spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo.

Four people, including an attorney and a chief financial officer, have been arrested for allegedly defrauding a KwaZulu-Natal college of around R30 million.

The chief financial officer allegedly approached Coastal KZN TVET College with an investment proposal, said Hawks spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo.

“It is alleged that during the period November 2018 and October 2019, the Chief Financial Officer made misrepresentations to Coastal KZN TVET College with regards to a lucrative investment opportunity for the institution,” said Mhlongo.

The CFO allegedly colluded with an attorney to create an investment proposal purporting to have come from a bank.

“It was then presented and accepted by the college. As a result, the college invested R30 million into a bank account similar to that of the college, when, in fact, it was false,” said Mhlongo.

The college later discovered that no investment was made on its behalf and reported the matter to the police.

“The Hawks were consulted to investigate, culminating in the arrest of the suspects,” said Mhlongo.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Friday, on charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering.

Cop sentenced to 10 years after deadly tavern brawl

Patrons at the tavern managed to stop the fight but the officer, after discovering he had been stabbed, returned to the tavern to settle the score.

An Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) investigation has led to the jailing of a Eastern Cape police officer in the Ngqeleni Regional Court for a murder he committed in February 2017.

“The deceased had a quarrel with the sentenced police official and a fight ensued at a local tavern,” IPID’s director of communication and marketing, Ndileka Cola, said in a statement on Friday.

Patrons at the tavern managed to stop the fight but the officer, after discovering he had been stabbed, returned to the tavern to settle the score.

“He found the deceased standing outside the gate of the tavern and shot him dead and after that he left the scene with a police van”.

IPID investigated the case and made recommendations to the police and National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

“The police conceded with the IPID recommendations, found the member guilty, and he was dismissed last year.

“The NPA also conceded with IPID’s findings and the police official was criminally charged, successfully prosecuted, found guilty and sentenced,” Cola said.

IPID said it would continue to execute its constitutional mandate to ensure that justice for all was served.

Fake cigarettes and skin lightening creams smuggled into SA

Kruger National Park rangers who had intercepted a group of men illegally entering SA from Mozambique found large amounts of alcohol, cigarettes and skin lightening creams in their possession.

Police spokesperson Brig Leonard Hlathi said the group was arrested on Thursday.

“According to information, the rangers were on duty patrolling along the fence which separates SA and Mozambique. They then spotted about 20 men from the side of Mozambique entering the Kruger National Park,” said Hlathi.

“These men started running after being instructed by the rangers to stop. Seven were apprehended but others managed to flee. The men had illicit cigarettes, liquor as well as skin whitening creams wrapped in black plastic bags and estimated to be worth about R78,000,” he added.

Alcohol

The group was arrested. They are just some of a number of people who have been arrested in recent days with large quantities of cigarettes or alcohol.

The sale of these items has been suspended in SA amid the coronavirus lockdown.

They were charged with possession of counterfeit cigarettes, liquor, contravention of the Illegal Immigration Act as well as trespassing, Hlathi said.

Mpumalanga’s police commissioner, Lt-Gen Mondli Zuma, hailed their rangers.

“We are delighted to have such men and women who are eager to fight crime. These rangers managed to intercept several suspects before the illicit goods could reach the targeted market,” said Zuma.

The group is expected to appear at the Bushbuckridge magistrate’s court on Monday.

Deputy Finance Minister David Masondo ordered to step down

The ANC’s Integrity Commission has ordered Deputy Finance Minister David Masondo to step down from his position following allegations of abuse of power for involving the Hawks in his domestic violence dispute with his mistress.

ANC veteran George Mashamba, the chairperson of the governing party’s integrity commission, wrote to Masondo earlier this month informing him of its decision.

We hope that in light of the above you would voluntarily step aside from your position so that our recommendation that you be removed from the position you hold at the political school and that you step aside from your appointment as deputy minister of finance would be redundant. It would stand you in very good stead were you to consider this option,” reads the letter dated July 18.

David Masondo

The commission found that Masondo’s actions brought the ANC into disrepute and that he showed poor judgment by involving the Hawks and opening himself up to accusations of abusing his power and state resources.

“You are not an ordinary member of the public. You are a senior leader of the ANC and a deputy minister. You should have known that the mandate of the Hawks is to investigate corruption and offences that fall under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act. The demands that [the woman] placed on you for money, while inconvenient to you, did not fall within the description of extortion under the act or within the mandate of the Hawks,” Mashamba told Masondo.

Masondo’s troubles started when his mistress allegedly started demanding money after he told her to abort their love child.

He then reportedly set the Hawks on her and the elite police unit arrested her.

Sanco wants David Makhura to resign

The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) wants Gauteng Premier David Makhura to resign.

The ANC aligned organization is accusing Makhura of poor leadership amid alleged PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) tender corruption in the province.

It says Makhura shouldn’t have appointed Transport MEC Jacob Mamabolo to temporarily lead the provincial health department, adding Mamabolo has no medical background.

This follows Bandile Masuku’s leave of absence over the controversial tender.

Sanco is further accusing Makhura of hiding corruption in his office. Makhura is yet to respond to the allegations.

Fired Uzalo actor Sizwe Khumbuza to Star alongside twin Brother

Actor Sizwe Khumbuza has confirmed his Uzalo departure saying there is no bad blood between him and the team. The actor is grateful for his character and the chance to portray him on the hit SABC 1 drama soapie Uzalo.

Sizwe Khumbuza

He became an instant hit with viewers as he was a charming, yet dangerous man seeking to avenge his father’s death. Godfather, his character, is set to exit the show by the end of season six.

In a bid to ease his fans from the outrage of their exit, he explained that it is completely normal for actors to come and go from a show after fulfilling their duties.

Sizwe Khumbuza

SARS urges taxpayers to file their tax returns online

The South African Revenue Service has urged taxpayers to file their tax returns online. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the revenue collector wants as few people as possible at branches.

SARS has come up with a new auto-assessment process which allows for most of the required paperwork to be done online.

62,000 taxpayers filed their tax returns on day one of the new auto-assessment system implemented by the revenue collector. It’s estimated 3.1-million automated returns will be processed on the new system.

“To allow more functionalist online and to shift a lot of our work online. We were able to do that by increasing our data online. You may not know that from the employers and third-party data 120 million data records. We suck that into our machine, imposed algorithms. That allows us to be ahead of you submitting your return,” said SARS commissioner, Edward Kieswetter.

Kieswetter said revenue collection is down by 23 percent. This is estimated to amount to about R82-billion since the start of the lockdown and with borders closed and customs duties drying up, additional collections are being lost.

Sin tax amounting to approximately R15 -billion has also not been collected, due to the ban on the sale of tobacco and alcohol.

SARS says it’s working with the Hawks and SAPS to clamp down on the booming trade in illicit items. It has managed to recover R80-million just on tobacco alone.

Thembi Seete

She is credited with making the razor cut popular in 2016 when she was still presenting the SABC 1 dance show Jika MajikaWhile there is no conventional pixie cute, the style is identified by a tapered neck trim and longer bangs towards the front, creating a more of a mushroom-like look. Thembi reminds us how to make shortly trimmed tresses look super sexy.

She went for the layered pixie with longer voluminous bangs in the front. She added symmetry to the style with an asymmetrical line on the side adding a bit of edge to the look
Edging the bangs to the side offers flexibility for those days when she doesn’t feel like flat ironing and applying heat to the hair. A layered pixie is perfect for anyone with fine or short hair as it gives the illusion of more volume.

Maintaining the pixie cut without heat is easy by applying mousse to the hair at night, followed-up by tying it down with a satin scarf to ensure super sleek edges.

DJ Maphorisa says the lockdown has left many South Africans broke

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to ravage the country, DJ Maphorisa has spoken out on the economic impact the lockdown to contain the coronavirus has had on poor communities.

The star had a serious moment on Twitter this week, reflecting on the state of the country and calling for an end to the lockdown.

DJ Maphorisa

He said it would be better to die trying to make coins than to die broke. Why should we die broke? Rather die trying. This is sad man. Lockdown must end. This doesn’t make sense anymore,” he said.

His comments split opinion, with some claiming the only reason he was speaking out now was that the “amapiano numbers” are dropping.

DJ Maphorisa

Meanwhile, comedian Thenjiwe Moseley took to Instagram to share a similar warning, adding that many more South Africans would die of poverty than the coronavirus.

She also slammed corruption in the government’s response to the pandemic.

“The truth of the matter is most of us will be killed by poverty. Uyadela wena one tender nawe osebenzela uHulumeni. Thina nje o No work No pay sivika indlala more than Covid-19. As a parent will you tell your children the truth?” she asked.
She said bills were not on lockdown and many were surviving on charity or savings.

DJ Maphorisa

“Four months without pay is not a joke. Lapho our bills are not on lockdown. Ngicabanga the single mother onganamuntu acela kuyena. You know the ones who have had to survive on their savings for the past four months and they don’t qualify for child grants because they are technically employed, even though they have been unable to work since level five.”

The lockdown has led to several major companies retrenching staff, leaving thousands without jobs.

A video allegedly showing workers at a Mercedes-Benz plant holding a prayer meeting after being retrenched went viral on social media this week.

It drew hundreds of reactions, including from actress Rami Chuene and musician Prince Kaybee.
